DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's track & field team heads back to Boston University for the 2019 America East Indoor Track & Field Championships this Friday and Saturday, February 22 and 23.
The Wildcats have competitors in several events across the meet, with one returning champion from last year's indoor championships, junior thrower Zachary Astle (Newbury, N.H.). Astle will compete in both the shot put, which he won gold in last year, as well as the weight throw, an event that he also scored in last season.
Along with Astle in the throws, the Wildcats will also look to senior Hani Traboulsi (Bensalem, Pa.) and sophomore Jacob Dearborn (Wolfeboro, N.H.) in the shot put as other key point contributors.
The Wildcats will also rely on the middle distance runners to pick up points along the way. Freshman Chris Pinkham (Concord, N.H.), fresh off an America East championship in men's soccer, is the top seed in the 500 meter run after his performance at the Valentine Invitational at BU, two weekends ago. Pinkham will be joined in the 500 by junior Matthew Adams (Concord, N.H.) and freshman Ian Daly (Meredith, N.H.).
UNH will also look for big performances from two athletes in the 800m, and three in the mile run. Fifth-year Thomas Harter (Hampton, N.H.) and junior Aaron Dobe (Contoocook, N.H.) will compete for New Hampshire in the 800m, while senior William Ulrich (Mineola, N.Y.), sophomore James Wilkes (Concord, N.H.) and sophomore Aidan Sullivan (Nashua, N.H.) will represent the Wildcats in the mile.
New Hampshire also sends Jordan Buckmire (Nashua, N.H.) in the triple jump; Buckmire score in the triple jump as a freshman in last year's indoor championships.
MEET INFO:
DATE: February 22-23
START TIME: 10 AM (Both Days)
LOCATION: BU Track and Tennis Center – Boston, Mass.
FROM THE COACH:
"We're happy with the fact that we have somebody in every event; they'll get some experience in a high level meet. We've gotta get it going in the throws, it's a much better field in terms of tightness of where everybody is; the conference isn't about throwing far, it's about throwing far to get into the final and then score at a high level. Middle distance guys right now are the cream of the crop. [Chris] Pinkham's the number one seed in the 500m, but the defending champion is in second. It's gonna be a good battle, new for a non-track guy to learn about advancing to the final. And Jordan Buckmire, he's got big time jumpers in the triple jump, each meet he's kind of raised up his level, so hopefully he'll continue to do that."

"Our middle distance kids will pick up the points along the way, we're going for a really good distance medley relay Friday night, and we'll be in the hunt for the 4x800 on Saturday. We gotta just keep plugging away at each event, with the kids that we have, we should be pretty solid. Nice to have a complete team"
