Gogolin Scores 23, 'Cats Edged at Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Freshman forward Ivy Gogolin (Hopkinton, Mass.) matched her career-high with 23 points to lead a big effort by the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team that came up just short at Hartford, 56-49, on Wednesday night at the Reich Family Pavilion.
UNH is 6-21 overall and 3-11 in America East.
Hartford is 18-9 overall and 11-2 in the league. The Hawks beat UNH, 66-48, in the first game in the series in Durham, on Jan. 23.
UNH's next game is home against UAlbany on Wednesday at noon.
The Wildcats played their 13th game without their leading scorer, junior forward Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine). Storey is out indefinitely with a foot injury.
Sophomore guard Jade Young had 15 points and 13 rebounds for Hartford.
NEXT UP
The Wildcats have two regular season games remaining, both at home.
They play UAlbany in Lundholm Gymnasium home on Wednesday at noon in their Girls & Women in Sports Day/Pay4 Kay Game.
Mini-clinics will be conducted by members of various UNH teams from 11-11:45 a.m. in the Paul Sweet Indoor Oval as part of the Girls & Women in Sports Day.
UNH closes out the regular season with its Senior Day game against UMBC on Saturday, March 2 at noon.

Gogolin has scored in double figures each of the last three games and six times this season. She previously had scored 23 points against the University of New England on Dec. 6.
Gogolin's next highest point total was 15 points against Vermont two games ago.
She made 10 of her 14 field goals in the game and also had five rebounds.
The 23 points also match UNH's high total for the season.
In addition to Gogolin's game against the University of New England, Storey had 23 points in consecutive games against Holy Cross and Central Connecticut in December.
Freshman guard Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wis.) had 13 points.
Junior guard Caroline Soucy (Beverly, Mass.) scored five points and led the Wildcats with 11 rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hawks led 17-12 after the first period.
Gogolin scored 11 points to direct a Wildcat charge in the second period.
UNH outscored Hartford 16-10 in the second period to grab a 28-27 lead at the break.
Gogolin made seven of her eight field goals in the first half and had 16 points.
Hartford had a 19-12 edge in the third period and led 46-40 with a quarter to go.
A free throw by senior forward Alli Gribbin (Keller, Texas) tied the game at 49-49 with 1:45 to play.
The Hawks pulled away from there.
