Brekke Paces 'Cats in Loss to UAlbany

DURHAM, N.H. – Freshman guard Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wis.) scored 15 points to lead the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team in a 78-53 setback to the University at Albany on Wednesday afternoon in a Girls & Women in Sports Day and Play4Kay game in Lundholm Gymnasium.
The Wildcats are 6-22 overall and 3-12 in America East.
UAlbany is 12-16 overall and 9-6 in America East.
UNH's next game is Saturday in Lundholm Gymnasium against UMBC for Senior Day at noon.
Freshman forward Ivy Gogolin (Hopkinton, Mass.) joined Brekke in double figures with 11 points and also had five rebounds.
The Wildcats played their 14th game without their leading scorer, junior forward Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine). Storey is out indefinitely with a foot injury.
Senior forward Heather Forster had 20 points and nine rebounds and sophomore guard Kyara Frames 22 points and five assists to lead UAlbany.

The game marked the eighth time Brekke has led the Wildcats in scoring this season. She is averaging 10.1 points a game and leads America East freshmen in scoring.
Brekke made three of her five three-point attempts in the game with all three of her makes coming in the first quarter.
She leads the team in made three-pointers and is 48-for-142 (33.8 percent) from beyond the arc. UNH has 125 three-point baskets as a team.
Gogolin had led the Wildcats in scoring the last two games. She has scored in double figures in points seven times this season, including in each of the last four games.
Between Brekke and Gogolin, freshmen have led UNH in scoring in six of the last seven games.

UAlbany led 15-14 after a period and extended its lead to 34-27 at the half.
Brekke led the 'Cats with nine points in the opening half and junior guard Caroline Soucy (Beverly, Mass.) had eight to go with three rebounds and three steals.
The Great Danes used a 29-9 third quarter to take control of the game.
