Guadarrama, Sutherlin Tally Double-Doubles in 78-71 Loss at James Madison

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Nick Guadarrama (Newington, Conn.) and Sean Sutherlin (New Brighton, Minn.) both recorded a double-double for the Wildcats, but the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team's second-half comeback fell short in a 78-71 loss to James Madison University at the Convocation Center on Saturday afternoon.
Guadarrama led UNH in both scoring (20 points) and rebounding (11) for the third time this season; he also had a team-high three assists. Sutherlin recorded 14 points and 10 rebounds. Josh Hopkins (Greensboro, N.C.) netted a season-high 18 points.
JMU was led by Darius Banks (23 points) and Matt Lewis (20).
UNH, which trailed by 24 points (72-48) with five minutes remaining, is now 3-3. The Dukes improved to 4-2.

FIRST HALF
•JMU scored the first eight points of the game and UNH never tied the score.
•The home team pushed the advantage to 26-9 at 9:42 and led by as many as 24 points (40-16 at 1:36) before taking a 42-23 lead into halftime.
SECOND HALF
•Hopkins hit back-to-back 3-pointers, then Marque Maultsby (Raleigh, N.C.) converted a three-point play and then scored in the paint as UNH whittled the deficit to nine points, 43-34, at 16:36.
•Leading 45-36 with 15 minutes remaining, JMU scored 15 consecutive points to extend the advantage to 24 points, 60-36, at 10:34.
•The Dukes led by a 24-point margin, 72-48, before New Hampshire made a furious comeback.
•Trailing 74-51 with three minutes remaining, the Wildcats netted 12 points in 1 minute, 45 seconds to trim the deficit to 74-63. Both Sutherlin and Guadarrama scored five points during the spurt.
•A 3-pointer by Guadarrama extended UNH's run to 15-0 and lifted the 'Cats within 74-66 with 43 seconds to play.
•Lewis was fouled and made both free throws to reestablish a double-digit lead with 35 seconds on the clock.
•Sutherlin quickly countered with a 3-pointer to advance the score to 76-69 with 27 seconds remaining.
•Lewis made two more foul shots with 19 seconds to go to secure the win.
