Sutherlin's 21 Points, 20 Rebounds Lifts 'Cats Past Bryant, 87-76, in OT

DURHAM, NH – Sean Sutherlin (New Brighton, Minn.) recorded 21 points and 20 rebounds to propel the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team to Tuesday night's 87-76 overtime win against Bryant University at Lundholm Gym.
Sutherlin finished with career highs in both points and rebounds to record his second consecutive double-double and fourth of the season. Jayden Martinez (Cibolo, Texas), who hit a 3-pointer as the shot clock expired to give the Wildcats an 81-74 lead at 2:16 of OT, also had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Bryant's Adam Grant led all scorers with 29 points.
The Wildcats improved to 3-0 at home and 4-3 overall. The Bulldogs are now 4-4.

FIRST HALF
- UNH fell behind 6-2 before Nick Guadarrama (Newington, Conn.) drove to the net and picked up the foul, draining both free throws to bring the game to 6-4.
- Both teams started off slow and UNH trailed 9-8 at the first media timeout (14:24).
- Guadarrama and Sutherlin each sank a 3-pointer to give UNH a 17-15 lead going into the second media timeout at 11:57.
- UNH pushed the margin to 26-19 at 7:50 after getting a couple key defensive stops.
- The 'Cats extended their lead to 11 points, 30-19, on a pair of free throws by Josh Hopkins (Greensboro, N.C.).
- The Bulldogs got as close as six points, 37-31, on Grant's foul shot at 1:51.
- Marque Maultsby (Raleigh, N.C.) hit a layup at 1:17 to give UNH a 39-31 lead heading into halftime.
SECOND HALF
- Bryant outscored UNH 11-8 in the opening minutes of the second half to close within 47-42 at 16:36.
- UNH went on a 9-0 run, led by a pair of Chris Lester (Barrington, Ill.) 3-pointers to build a 56-42 lead at 13:20.
- The Bulldogs grabbed a pair of offensive rebounds on the next possession that lead to Grant's four-point play
- Trailing 62-53 at 9:03, Bryant netted nine consecutive points to level the score, 62-62, at 6:39.
- Ikenna Ndugba's layup put the visitors in front, 64-63, at 6:17 to give the Bulldogs their first lead since 12:50 of the first half (15-14).
- The Wildcats trailed 72-70 at the last media timeout (2:42) but tied the score on Guadarrama's layup with 1:34 remaining.
- Grant's jumper put the Bulldogs back ahead, 74-72, at 1:14.
- Blondeau Tchoukuiengo (Montreal, Quebec) drove down the lane for a layup to tied the score at 74 with 44 seconds to play.
- Both teams had an empty possession to send the game into overtime.
OVERTIME
- UNH outscored Bryant 13-2 in the five-minute overtime session.
- Sutherlin's offensive rebound and layup 50 seconds into OT ignited the rally.
- Martinez followed with a layup at 3:36 to give the 'Cats a four-point lead, 78-74.
- After a defensive stop by New Hampshire, Martinez drilled a 3-pointer from the left corner as the shot clock expired to extend the advantage to 81-74 at 2:16.
- Tchoukuiegno hit a pair of foul shots at 1:59 and Martinez made 1 of 2 free throws with 44 seconds remaining to push the margin to double digits, 84-74.

- UNH has a 4-4 lifetime record against Bryant and that includes 3-2 at UNH's Lundholm Gym.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- The last time UNH played an overtime game was February 25, 2017, when the Wildcats defeated UMBC in double OT, 94-90.
- Five Wildcats scored in double digits. Sutherlin (21) was followed by Guadarrama (15), Martinez (14), Lester (13) and Tchoukuiengo (10).
- Sutherlin's 20-20 effort is the first by an America East conference player since December 2016.
