ORONO, Maine – Junior forward Kohei Sato (Nishitokyo, Japan) scored the first goal of the game, but the Black Bears responded with three straight goals as the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team fell to Maine, 3-1, on Friday night at Alfond Arena in the Border Battle, presented by Buffalo Wild Wings.
With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 5-3-1 overall (3-2-0 HEA), while the Black Bears improve to 6-3-2 (3-2-0 HEA).
UP NEXT: These two teams will conclude their two-game series on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. at Alfond Arena on NESNplus.

NEXT HOME GAMES: The Wildcats will return to the Whitt when they host Michigan on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 22-23 at 7 p.m. The second of the six-set trading card series will be given out at the Friday game, while the game on Saturday is presented by Tuscan Brands as a UNH scarf will be the giveaway. HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead at 7:27 of the first period when Sato sent a shot from the lower corner of the left face-off circle past Maine goalie Jeremy Swayman. Senior forward Liam Blackburn (Prince George, British Columbia) and freshman forward Chase Stevenson (West Kelowna, British Columbia) each posted an assist on the goal.
- UNH outshot Maine, 7-6, while the Wildcats went 0-2 on the power play and the Black Bears went 0-1.
- The Black Bears tied the game at 1-1 at 15:23 of the second period, when A.J. Drobot tipped the puck off a pass from Veli-Matti Tiuraniemi past junior goalie Mike Robinson (Bedford, N.H.)
- Then with just 21 seconds remaining in the second period, Eduards Tralmaks gave the Black Bears a 2-1 advantage.
- UNH outshot Maine by a 12-11 margin, while the Wildcats went 0-2 on the man-advantage.
- At 3:25 of the third period Maine extended its lead to 3-1 when Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup netted a power play goal.
