The redshirt sophomore gets her second honor in three weeks.
WAKEFIELD, Mass. – University of New Hampshire goaltender Ava Boutilier (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island) has been named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Boutilier backstopped the Wildcats to a 2-0-0 weekend in conference play, the program's best Hockey East start since the 2010-2011 season. Boutilier began her weekend with a 2-0 shutout victory over UConn, stopping all 23 shots on net. She followed that up with a 27 save performance at home against #10 Boston University, in which she allowed just two goals. Her weekend stats stand at a 1.00 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage.
UNH's win over BU was the program's first home victory over the Terriers since the 2012 season; since then the Wildcats' only victory over BU came in the 2017 playoffs in game one of their best-of-three series. The victory puts the Wildcats a 1-0-0 this season against teams in the top 10, and now has New Hampshire receiving a vote in the USCHO.com poll. It's the first time UNH has received votes in the national poll since November 20th, 2017, after the Wildcats spent six straight weeks just outside the top 10.
Boutilier and the Wildcats return to action this weekend on the road as they travel to Burlington, Vermont this Friday for a 6 P.M. puck drop with the Catamounts. They have a quick turnaround as they face #3 Northeastern the following Sunday at Matthews Arena in Boston at 3 P.M. on NESN+.
