Storey's 19 Points Lead 'Cats in Setback vs. Binghamton

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior forward Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine) scored 19 points to lead four players in double figures, but the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team fell in its America East home opener to Binghamton, 71-62, on Saturday afternoon in Lundholm Gymnasium.
The Wildcats play at UMass Lowell on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
They return home for their Alumni Day and a game against Stony Brook on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 1 p.m.
UNH is 3-12 overall and 0-2 in America East.
Binghamton is 6-9 overall and 1-1 in the league.
Carly Boland led Binghamton with 23 points and Rebecca Carmody had 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists while playing only the second half.
NEXT UP
The Wildcats continue America East play at UMass Lowell on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
They take on Stony Brook on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 1 p.m. for Alumni Day. An alumni game will be played at 10 a.m. and alumni will be celebrated at halftime of the game against Stony Brook.

Storey scored her 19 points on seven-for-10 shooting from the field and she made four of her five free throws. She also made her only three-point attempt and had six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Storey has led UNH in scoring 13 times in the team's 15 games this season and she has scored in double figures in each game except the opener.
Sophomore guard Amanda Torres (Hudson, N.H.) matched her career high with 14 points, freshman guard Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wisc.) had 13 points and junior guard Caroline Soucy (Beverly, Mass.) had 12 points and led the Wildcats with seven rebounds and four steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Brekke had six points and Soucy five to lead the 'Cats to a 15-15 tie at the end of one period.
Torres had eight points and Storey seven in the second quarter and UNH opened a 36-31 lead at the half.
Binghamton ran off 12 straight points spanning the first and second periods to lead 21-15 with 8:20 left in the half.
UNH answered with an 11-point run. A couple of Storey free throws made it 28-27 UNH with 3:48 to go. Torres made a three-pointer and then a traditional three-point play and the 'Cats led 34-27.
Storey had another six points in the third quarter. A Carmody three-pointer at the buzzer made it 53-51 Binghamton with a period to play.
Binghamton had a 61-54 lead with 2:25 left.
A Storey layup made it 61-57 with 57.2 seconds to play, but the Bearcats pulled away at the end.
