Magarity Takes No. 3 Spot in Program Victories
LOWELL, MASS – Kali Grimm (Norwood Young America, Minn.) scored a career-high 15 points to lead three freshmen in double figures and the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team knocked off UMass Lowell, 56-53, for its first America East Conference win of the season Wednesday night at the Tsongas Center.
The triumph was UNH coach Maureen Magarity's 134th victory at UNH, giving her the No. 3 spot on the program's list for career wins.
The Wildcats play Stony Brook on Alumni Day at home in Lundholm Gymnasium on Saturday at 1 p.m.
UNH improved to 4-12 overall and 1-2 in America East.
It was UNH's first road win of the season as well.
UMass Lowell is 5-11 and 1-2.
Freshman forward Ivy Gogolin (Hopkinton, Mass.) and freshman guard Kari Brekke (Appleton, Wisc.) scored 10 points each.
The Wildcats pulled off the win with their leading scorer, junior forward Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine), sidelined with an injury.
Grad student Brianna Rudolph led the River Hawks with 17 points.
NEXT UP
The Wildcats face Stony Brook at home on Saturday at 1 p.m. in their annual Alumni Day game.
An alumni game will be played at 10 a.m. and the alumni will be celebrated at halftime of the game against Stony Brook.

Grimm made four of the eight three-pointers she attempted in the game.
The four treys matched UNH's best for the season. Brekke also made four in the team's first game of the season against Minnesota.
Grimm more than doubled her previous high in points for the season. Her previous best was seven points against Northeastern.
She was three-for-18 on her three-pointers this season coming into the game and had not made more than one in a game. She also matched her career high with three assists.
Besides their 10 points, Gogolin had six rebounds and Brekke had four rebounds and three assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Gribbin scored seven points to lead UNH to a 16-11 advantage after one period.
Freshmen scored all 22 points - Brekke and Grimm each had eight points and Gogolin had six - in the second quarter and the Wildcats opened a 38-25 lead at the half.
It was the most points the 'Cats had scored in a first half this season.
Gogolin, Brekke and Grimm each had eight points in the half.
Grimm made her third three-pointer of the night with 1:22 left in the third quarter.
She led UNH with 11 points and UMass Lowell led 43-42 through three periods.
The Wildcats trailed 53-52 with 1:47 left in the game.
Sophomore guard Amanda Torres (Hudson, N.H.) gave UNH the lead at 55-53 with a drive down the middle and layup with 22.5 seconds to play.
Grimm made a foul shot with 2.9 seconds left to help seal it.
