Three Friar goals put the game out of reach for the Wildcats.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team, looking to snap a two-game losing streak, faced the #9 Providence College Friars on Friday evening at Scheider Arena. The Friars tallied the first goal of the game in the second period and potted three more in the third to take the first game of the weekend series, 4-0.
The Wildcats started off the game skating toe to toe with Providence but Providence gained a slight edge in shots on goal in the second and third periods, and got into the shooting lanes to block more UNH shots and stop any scoring chances.
Senior captain goaltender Kyra Smith (Littleton, Colo.) faced 31 shots, saving 28 of them for before she was pulled in the final minutes for the extra attacker. Her record on the season falls to even at 7-7-2.
RELIVE THE RIVALRY
New Hampshire and Providence began the week with the second straight Relive The Rivalry alumni fundraising challenge prior to the weekend's series. After losing the challenge last season, New Hampshire's alumni base bounced back to take this year's title with 43 donations to Providence's 8. The Wildcats were presented with this year's trophy prior to the contest.
