UNH Hosts Holy Cross in Return from Winter Break

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's track and field team looks to pick up right where they left off before the winter break as they host the Holy Cross Crusaders this Saturday, January 19 at the Paul Sweet Oval in the UNH Field House.
The 'Cats went into winter break riding the strong performances of field performers, led by throwers Zachary Astle (Newbury, N.H.) and Eric Brogioli (Milford, Mass.). Astle and Brogioli look to make an impact for the Wildcats in the weight throw while fellow thrower Hani Traboulsi (Bensalem, Pa.) takes on the shot put.
In the other field events the Wildcats turn to sophomore Jordan Buckmire (Nashua, N.H.) in the long and triple jump, freshman Emmanuel Nkounkou (Dover, N.H.) in the high jump, and freshman William Shepard (Milford, N.H.) in the pole vault.
The track events will be led by seniors William Ulrich (Mineola, N.Y.) in the mile, Timothy Kenefick (Guilford, Conn.) in the 3000m, and Brett Hoerner (Manchester, N.H.) in the 1000m. New Hampshire also looks to track runners like Michael Monohan (Tewskbury, Mass.) in the hurdles, and in the sprints/middle distance events will be led by Ian Daly (Meredith, N.H.), Thomas Chant (North Conway, N.H.), Thomas Harter (Hampton, N.H.), and Matthew Adams (Concord, N.H.)

The 'Cats are back in full swing as next weekend they host Maine and Vermont next Saturday, January 26. The weekend kicks off with the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Friday, January 25 hosted by Boston University, with select New Hampshire athletes competing.
LAST TIME OUT:
Junior thrower Zachary Astle (Newbury, N.H.) took first in the weight throw at the Dartmouth quad-meet with a best of 59 feet, 0.75 inches, which beats his personal best from last weekend of 57 feet. Astle also took third in the shot put, his best throw reached 50'11.5".
A pair of distance events, the mile and the 5000m had Wildcats as the first to finish; senior Brett Hoerner (Manchester, N.H.) took first in the mile with a finishing time of 4 minutes, 22.32 seconds, and fellow senior Davis Clark (Manchester, N.H.) took first in the 5000m in 15:13.86.
Finishing off the first-place finishes for the Wildcats was the relay team of James Busi (Plastow, N.H.), Ian Daly (Meredith, N.H.), Aaron Dobe (Contoocook, N.H.) and Hoerner as the anchor, finishing first in the 4x800 relay in 7:56.82.
The Wildcats ended the day with the top team score of 146, edging out host school Dartmouth by two points, for their second straight meet win.
