Wildcats Outrun the Competition in Home Invitational

DURHAM, N.H.- The University of New Hampshire track & field program hosted the annual Wildcat Invitational this Saturday at the Reggie Atkins Track & Field Facility in Wildcat Stadium.
Both the men's and the women's track and field teams won the meet, the women's team running away with a total point score of 212 over Maine and Bates, and the men's team holding a final score of 182 over Bates, Maine, and the University of Southern Maine.
Emma Checovich (North Hampton, N.H.) led the way with two individual first-place finishes, as well as being a part of a first-place relay team. Checovich took first in the long jump with a longest distance of 18'2.25", followed by Carly Orlacchio (Cromwell, Conn.) in third with 17'3.5".
Checovich also took first in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing in 14.85 seconds, just 0.49 seconds off her personal best time I the event. Maria Virga took second in 15.26 seconds. Checovich also led off the 4x100 relay that finished first in 48.53 seconds. Checovich was joined by Jessica Hackett (Dover, N.H.), Elise Renahan (Atkinson, N.H.), and Virga
The Wildcats dominated on the track as well as in field events, with Natalie Howes (Londonderry, N.H.) taking first in the javelin throw for the second weekend in a row, with a longest throw of 126'4". Following behind her was Alyssa Colbert (Smithfield, R.I.) in second with 121', and Carly Orlacchio finished third with 117'6". In the discus, Emily Wernig (Gilford, N.H.) took first with a distance of 134'1". Colbert was the runner up with 128'4", and Laura Jackson (Doylestown, Pa.) took third with 118'1".
UP NEXT:
The Wildcats head out on the road next weekend for the Larry Ellis Invitational on Friday, April 20 and the UMass Lowell Invitational Saturday, April 21. The Wildcats have only two weekends left before the conference championship meet, hosted by UMBC on Saturday and Sunday May 5 and 6.

- In the pole vault, Kari Murnane (Byram, N.J.) took first overall with a vault of 11'2.5". Sabrina Anderson (Hopewell, N.J.) took third with 10'2.75" and Natalie Howes took fourth with 10'2.75".
- The Wildcats finished one-two in the high jump, with Shelby Strickland (Kennebunk, Maine) took first with a height of 5'4.5", and Tessa Artruc (Livonia, N.Y.) took second with 5'3".
- Madeleine Brandon (Killingworth, Conn.) took first in the 1500 meter run in 4:52.28, followed by Madeline Quigley (Rowley, Mass.) in second at 4:53.35.
- In the 100 meter dash, Jessica Hackett finished first with a final time of 12.55 seconds. Elise Renahan finished third in 12.91 seconds.
- Emileigh Glode (Boxborough, Mass.) won the 400 meter hurdles, taking first in 1:05.42.
