Wildcats have Invitationals in Boston, Lowell This Weekend

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's and women's track & field teams are back in action in two road invitational meets on Saturday.
The Wildcats are coming off a sweep at the Wildcat Invitational last Saturday at home, and are looking to wrap up the season strong before championship season starts on May 5.
UNH will send split squads to Boston and Lowell, Mass. for two invitational meets hosted by Northeastern and UMass Lowell.
JAY CARISELLA COACHES INVITE HOSTED BY NORTHEASTERN:
Six Wildcats will travel to the Jay Carisella Invitational hosted by Northeastern at the Solomon Outdoor Track in Boston. For the women's team, Angelyn Masters (Bangor, Maine) and Hannah Kimball (Atkinson, N.H.) will compete in several track events for the Wildcats.
GEORGE DAVIS INVITATIONAL HOSTED BY UMASS LOWELL:
While a smaller group heads to Boston, the rest of the men's and women's track and field teams will travel to UMass Lowell for the annual George Davis Invitational. Events will begin at 10:30 A.M.
On the women's side, Emma Checovich (North Hampton, N.H.) will be participating in the 4x100 relay, the long jump, and the hurdles, in which she has the number one seeded times/distance in those three events. The meet will also see the high-jump trio of Rachel Morrison (Westwood, Mass.), Shelby Strickland (Kennebunk, Maine), and Tessa Artruc (Livonia, N.Y.).
UP NEXT:
After a weekend in Lowell and Boston, the Wildcats head back out on the road early next week with the Penn Relays taking place Wednesday, April 25 to Saturday, April 28. The 'regular season' of the outdoor season begins to wind down with the pre-conference meet hosted by UMass on that Saturday, April 28, with the America East Championships taking place the following weekend, May 5 an 6 at UMBC.
LAST TIME OUT:
Last weekend the Wildcats split time at the Ocean State Invitational and the home finale meet, the Wildcat Invitational.
Five athletes from the women's team competed in the mile run and the 5000m run at the Ocean State Invitational. In the 5000m, Kayla Farren (Nashua, N.H.) and Caroline Mahoney (Bedford, N.H.) finished one after the other in their heat, Farren finishing second in 17:51.05 and Mahoney in 17:51.64. Their times were enough to place them 11th and 12th in the finals. Both of their finishes were new personal bests in the vent, Farren beating her old time of 17:52.68 and Mahoney beating her old time of 17:52.59, both of which were set in the indoor season.
The remaining three women's athletes were in the mile. Hannah Kimball (Atkinson, N.H.) was the top finisher for the Wildcats in the event, winning her heat in 4:52.85. Her time was good enough for a ninth place overall finish. Angelyn Masters (Bangor, Maine) took 10th overall, ninth in her heat, with a finishing time of 4:53.15. Her finish just missed her personal best in the event by less than a second (4:52.64). Meg Champagne (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) took sixth in her heat and placed 18th overall with a time of 5:01.59. The finish is a new personal best in the event, beating her old time by 14 seconds (5:15.30).
Back home at the Wildcat Invitational, Emma Checovich (North Hampton, N.H.) led the way with two individual first-place finishes, as well as being a part of a first-place relay team. Checovich took first in the long jump with a longest distance of 18'2.25", followed by Carly Orlacchio (Cromwell, Conn.) in third with 17'3.5".
Checovich also took first in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing in 14.85 seconds, just 0.49 seconds off her personal best time I the event. Maria Virga took second in 15.26 seconds. Checovich also led off the 4x100 relay that finished first in 48.53 seconds. Checovich was joined by Jessica Hackett (Dover, N.H.), Elise Renahan (Atkinson, N.H.), and Virga

Following behind her was Alyssa Colbert (Smithfield, R.I.) in second with 121', and Carly Orlacchio finished third with 117'6". In the discus, Emily Wernig (Gilford, N.H.) took first with a distance of 134'1". Colbert was the runner up with 128'4", and Laura Jackson (Doylestown, Pa.) took third with 118'1".
