Ruth White Earns All-America Second Team in NCAA 10,000m Run

EUGENE, Ore. – Freshman distance runner Ruth White (Orono, Maine) of the University of New Hampshire women's track and field team placed ninth in the 10,000 meter run with a school-record time of 32 minutes, 20.60 seconds to earn All-America Second Team at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday night at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.
White shattered her own school record set at the NCAA East First Round by 29.43 seconds, and she also broke the Women's American Junior (U20) Outdoor record, pending ratification by USATF. She was edged by the University of Alabama's Brenda Tuwei at the finish line to miss All-America First Team by 0.46 seconds.
The University of New Mexico's Pamela Kosgei won the 10,000m with a NCAA meet record time of 31:17.82 seconds.
White went out with a large lead pack of approximately 16 runners in the first mile with a 4:58.72 split. In the second mile, she was in the third group – consisting of three runners – and ran a 5:02.98 split for a mark of 10:01.70 at 3,200m into the race, and she ran a sub-77 second 400m each of the first 10 laps.
White completed 6,400m (four miles) in 20:21.81 with mile splits of 5:08.07 in the third and 5:12.04 in the fourth. Through 8,000m, she was in seventh place with an aggregate time of 25:40.5. She held onto seventh place the next two laps and fluctuated between seventh and ninth in the final three laps of the race.
White closed the race strong with splits of 1:19.58 and 1:19.80 in the last two laps – she had run between 80-81 seconds each of the previous five laps.
White earned the bid to Eugene in a time of 32:50.17 at the NCAA East First Round in Jacksonville, Fla., on May 29 as she placed sixth out of 48 competitors with the top 12 advancing to the NCAA Championships.
White had a stellar rookie outdoor season as she earned a spot in the NCAA East First Round in the 10,000 meter run with her school record and meet record time of 32:57.83 at the America East Championships, where she was named the Most Outstanding Rookie. White previously set the school record with a time of 33:27.57 in the outdoor season opener at the Black & Gold Invitational. She won gold in the 5,000m at the New England Championships with a school record time of 16:22.78.
The previous time a member of the UNH women's track and field team competed at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships was in 2018, when 11-time All-American and two-time Olympian Elle Purrier St. Pierre earned All-America First Team with a seventh-place finish in the 1,500m.
