Ruth White Dominates 10,000 Meter Run on Day 1 of America East Championships

Wildcats are in fourth place after a weather-shortened first day of competition.
RESULTS
DURHAM, N.H. – Freshman Ruth White (Orono, Maine) dominated the 10,000 meter run to win gold as the University of New Hampshire women's track and field team competed on Day 1 of the America East Championships at the Reggie Atkins Track and Field Facility at Wildcat Stadium.
The 'Cats are currently in fourth place with 22 points through four events after a weather-shortened first day of action. Binghamton is first with 41.5 points.
White posted a stellar performance as she set the America East Championships record and broke her own school record in a time 32:57.83 to earn 10 team points. She won the event by an outstanding 3:47.08 as Chloe Whiting of Bryant was second at 36:44.91. White shattered the previous America East Championships record which was set by Andrea Walkonen in 2008 (34:42.03) and she bested her own school record of 33:27.57 that she set at the Black & Gold Invitational on March 28.
Junior Makena Lee (Northwood, N.H.) was fourth in the pole vault with a jump of 12'1.50" to tally five points for the 'Cats.
Graduate student Gabby DeAngelis (Bedford, N.H.) recorded a fourth-place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a PR of 10:41.84 to gain five points.
Junior Ronnie Jones (Lowell, Mass.) placed seventh in the hammer throw with a toss of 158'6" to pick up two points for the 'Cats.
Three Wildcats qualified for the 1,500 meter run final as senior Claire Ronan (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) won her heat and posted the second-best time at 4:38.29 and senior Jill Walker (Simi Valley, Calif.) also took her heat and had the third best time at 4:40.25. Junior Ella Malone (Barrington, N.H.) also qualified with a PR of 4:41.72.
The Wildcats will conclude the America East Championships on Sunday, May 4.
