‘Cats Take on Two Massachusetts Invitationals

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's and women's track & field teams took aim at two invitationals this weekend in Massachusetts. The Wildcats competed at both Northeastern and UMass Lowell on Saturday and continued their training for the upcoming championship season.
JAY CARISELLA INVITATIONAL – NORTHEASTERN (Boston, Mass.)
Seven Wildcats competed at the Northeastern-hosted invitational Saturday afternoon; from the women's team, Hannah Kimball (Atkinson, N.H.) won the 1500m run in 4:39.72, and Angelyn Masters (Bangor, Maine) took third in 4:43.66.
GEORGE DAVIS INVITATIONAL – UMASS LOWELL (Lowell, Mass.)
Emma Checovich (North Hampton, N.H.) took first in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.60 seconds, just .36 seconds off her personal best set at the New England Outdoor Championships last season. Checovich also took second in the long jump with a jump of 17 feet, 7.5 inches.
Rachel Morrison (Westwood, Mass.) won the high jump with a height of 5'5" which was a three-way tie for the highest jump; Shelby Strickland (Kennebunk, Maine) took third with 5'5" as well.
Madeline Quigley (Rowley, Mass.) won the 1500m run with a new personal best time of 4:51.94. Shannon Stang (Medford, N.J.) was the runner up in 4:53.40.

After a weekend in Lowell and Boston, the Wildcats head back out on the road early next week; the men's team will head to Worcester, Mass. for an early week quad-meet with Holy Cross, Rhode Island, and Worcester State on April 24, then both teams head to the Penn Relays taking place Wednesday, April 25 to Saturday, April 28. The 'regular season' of the outdoor season begins to wind down with the pre-conference meet hosted by UMass on that Saturday, April 28, with the America East Championships taking place the following weekend, May 5 and 6 at UMBC.

- Jessica Hackett (Dover, N.H.) took second in the 200m dash with a time of 26.09 seconds.
- Emily Wernig (Gilford, N.H.) placed second in the discus throw with 136'4" and Natalie Howes (Londonderry, N.H.) took second in the javelin throw with 128'9".
