Women’s Track and Field Finishes Fourth at New England Championships

Three Wildcats win gold medals; two school records set
AMHERST, Mass. – Freshman Ruth White (Orono Maine), freshman Sarah Moore (Lisbon, Maine) and grad student Gabby DeAngelis (Bedford, N.H.) each won gold as the University of New Hampshire women's track & field team competed at the New England Outdoor Championships at UMass Track & Field Complex on Saturday.
The Wildcats placed fourth out of 29 teams with 72 points. UMass won the team championship with 136 points.
White, who last week placed first and set the school and meet record in the 10,000 meter run at the America East Championships, captured gold in the 5,000 meter run in a school-record time of 16:22.78 to tally 10 points for the team. The previous record was set by Keely Maguire at 16:27.63 in 2013.
Moore, who also won gold in the long jump at the America East Championships, placed first in the long jump at the New England Championships with a leap of 19'7" for 10 points.
DeAngelis won the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a personal record time of 10:39.35 to secure 10 points for the team.
Freshman Emma Reaves (Westminster, Md.) broke her own school record in the shot put with a toss of 46'3.25" to place third for six points.
Sophomore Briana Danis (Hooksett, N.H.) took bronze in the discus with a throw of 142'11" and freshman Ruby Prentiss (Falmouth, Maine) was eighth with a personal-best throw of 132'6".
Freshman Mia Carbone (Meriden, Conn.) earned five points with a fourth-place finish in the 800 meter run at 2:15.32.
Sophomore Ronnie Jones (Lowell, Mass.) tallied five points as she placed fourth in the hammer throw at a personal record distance of 173'8".
The 4x100 meter relay team of freshman Mariam Nada (Portsmouth, N.H.), Eva Roberts (Derry, N.H.), Audrey Thornton (Freedom, N.H.) and Moore placed fourth in a time of 46.89 to add five points.
Senior Claire Ronan (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) was fifth in the 1,500 meter run in a PR of 4:30.62 for four points, while junior Ella Malone (Barrington, N.H.) was eighth in a PR of 4:40.35 for one point.
The 4x800 meter relay team of DeAngelis, Carbone, Malone and Ronan posted four points for placing fifth in a time of 9:22.40.
The 4x400 meter relay team of senior Autumn Agri (Stratham, N.H.), senior Teagan O'Brien (Pawcatuck, Conn.), sophomore Kailey Dillon (Merrimack, N.H.) and junior Liliana Chirichella (Troy, N.H.) were seventh with a time of 4:02.90 for two points.
Nada was eighth in the 100 meter dash with a PR of 11.97 and picked one point.
Freshman Rachel Poulin (Exeter, N.H.) was eighth in the javelin at 120'11".
Selected Wildcats will return to action at the First Round of the NCAA Championships from May 28-May 31 in Jacksonville, Fla. Athletes accepted into the first round will be announced on Thursday, May 22.
