Wildcats Set to Compete in Two Weekend Invitationals

DURHAM, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire track & field teams return to action this Friday and Saturday, April 13 and 14 in two meets, the Ocean State Invitational hosted by Providence on Friday, and the Wildcat Invitational at home on Saturday.
The Wildcats will send six athletes down to Providence for the Ocean State Invitational running Friday night through Saturday. UNH will be one of 14 teams to compete in the meet.
The men's team sends William Ulrich (Mineola, N.Y.) down to compete in the mile run against a competitive field. Ulrich will face several NCAA qualifiers and the race is expected to be a very fast race, as runners involved had run a sub-four minute mile.
Back home in Durham, the remaining Wildcats will host the Wildcat Invitational, an all-day event on Saturday. The Wildcats are coming off a weekend where the men's team won the home meet by a convincing 43 points, while the women's team was edged out by one point, finishing in second.
Events will begin at 11 A.M. with the men's javelin throw, the women's hammer throw, the men's shot put, as well as both long jumps and the women's pole vault. The events continue on from there with the women's and men's events alternating in the throws and pole vault. The track events will begin at 1 P.M. with the men's steeple chase. LAST TIME OUT
The men's performance was highlighted once again by the throwers, who won every event for UNH. Michael Shanahan (Dover, N.H.) continued his impressive season with a win in the hammer throw, notching 212 feet, 5 inches, winning the vent by a full 35 feet. Shanahan was followed by four Wildcats as the top five in the hammer; Eric Brogioli (Milford, Mass.) took second with a throw of 177'06", setting a new personal best in the event. Following behind him was Edward Speidel (Dover, N.H.) who also set a new PB with a third place throw of 173'9". The hammer was rounded out by Jon Chapman (Newport, R.I.) in fourth and Cullen Aubin (Warwick, R.I.) in fifth. Chapman threw 168'1" and Aubin threw a new personal best 165'1"
The javelin was won by Kyle Faucher (Danville, N.H.) who hit a new personal best in the event with 166'4"; he was followed by Aidan Moore in fourth place, posting his first collegiate track and field result, a throw of 141'6".
A one-two-three finish in the shot put saw Zachary Astle (Newbury, N.H.) finish first with a long throw of 55'2" , followed by Nicholas Ritzo (Rye, N.H.) in second with a throw of 48"5.25". Shanahan finished third with a throw of 48'4.75"
Finally, the discus throw was highlighted by Ritzo finishing first with a throw of 153'10". Shanahan set a new personal best in the discus, finishing third with 149'9", followed by Astle in fourth at 149', and Duncan Holland (Nashua, N.H.) took fifth with a throw of 134'2", another new personal best.
Other Wildcat highlights for the men's team included Alex Tamulonis (Mason, N.H.) taking first in the pole vault, reaching 14'11.5" and a first place finish for Brett Hoerner (Manchester, N.H.) in the 1500, finishing in 4 minutes, 4.07 seconds.
