Simpson, Healy Pace 'Cats in Setback vs. Vermont

DURHAM, N.H. - Senior forward Olivia Healy (Reading, Mass.) scored 16 points and senior guard Aliza Simpson (Londonderry, N.H.) added 11, but the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team came up short against Vermont, 58-53, on Monday night in Lundholm Gymnasium.
UNH is now 15-9 overall and 6-5 in America East play. Vermont is 7-16 overall and 4-6 in the league.
Healy scored eight of her team's 12 points in the fourth period to lead a UNH charge. Freshman guard Amanda Torres (Hudson, N.H.) hit a jumper from the top of the key to give the Wildcats a 53-52 lead with 1:57 to play.
Kristina White answered with a 10-footer with 1:10 left and Vermont was back in front. UNH was unable to get a shot off on its next possession and then had a couple of misses down the stretch and Vermont made its foul shots to pull away.

The Wildcats play at Maine on Thursday night at 7 and are at UMBC on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m.
They return to Lundholm for their final two regular season home games next week.
They play Hartford at home on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 11 a.m. for Education Day and then face Stony Brook on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. on Senior Day.

HIGHLIGHTS
UNH was coming off a nice 74-68 win over league-leading Albany on Saturday.
The Wildcats were looking to finish off a sweep of the Catamounts. They trailed going into the fourth quarter at Vermont on Jan. 18 and pulled out a 52-49 win on a Kat Fogarty (Westminster, Mass.) bucket in the last 10 seconds.
This time, Vermont managed to close it out.
Senior forward Hanna Crymble made all four of her foul shots in the last 11.5 seconds to clinch the win.
UNH made a season high seven three-pointers. The Wildcats were seven-for-19 from behind the arc.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Vermont led 16-14 at the end of the first period and maintained the edge at 28-26 at the half.
Simpson made both of the three-pointers she took in the first half and UNH was four-for-seven as a team. She led the team with eight points and seven rebounds in the half and had a couple of assists as well.
Pogue had six points in the half and Lai had five points and five rebounds.
The Catamounts owned a 45-41 lead after three periods. Healy and Torres combined for all the points as UNH took the 53-52 lead.
