UNH Takes First at Dartmouth Meet

Scorers across all events lead New Hampshire to victory.
HANOVER, N.H. – The University of New Hampshire men's track and field squad grabbed another meet victory, this time at the Dartmouth meet on Saturday, December 8, against the host school, along with Vermont and Maine.
Junior thrower Zachary Astle (Newbury, N.H.) took first in the weight throw with a best of 59 feet, 0.75 inches, which beats his personal best from last weekend of 57 feet. Astle also took third in the shot put, his best throw reached 50'11.5".
A pair of distance events, the mile and the 5000m had Wildcats as the first to finish; senior Brett Hoerner (Manchester, N.H.) took first in the mile with a finishing time of 4 minutes, 22.32 seconds, and fellow senior Davis Clark (Manchester, N.H.) took first in the 5000m in 15:13.86.
Finishing off the first-place finishes for the Wildcats was the relay team of James Busi (Plastow, N.H.), Ian Daly (Meredith, N.H.), Aaron Dobe (Contoocook, N.H.) and Hoerner as the anchor, finishing first in the 4x800 relay in 7:56.82.
The Wildcats ended the day with the top team score of 146, edging out host school Dartmouth by two points, for their second straight meet win.

The Wildcats have the rest of December off for finals and winter break; they return to action in a dual meet with Holy Cross at home in the Paul Sweet Oval on Saturday, January 19, 2019. The meet begins at 12 P.M.

- Junior Casey Farrell (Galstonbury, Conn.) took runner-up in the 500m run finishing in 1:07.50, a new personal best in the event.
- Pole vaulter William Shepard (Milford, N.H.) took third in the pole vault, his highest result being 13'5.25".
- In the long jump, freshman Kevin McGrath (Hopkinton, N.H.) took third with a distance of 21'9.5".
