'Cats Fall to Princeton, Eye League Opener at Maine

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior forward Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine) scored 14 points, but the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team fell to Princeton University, 90-42, on Saturday in Lundholm Gymnasium to wrap up the nonconference portion of its 2018-19 schedule.
UNH opens America East play with a game at Maine on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The Wildcats take a 3-10 record into conference play. They are 3-3 in home games this season.
Princeton, coached by New Hampshire native Courtney Banghart, won its seventh straight game and improved to 8-7.
Princeton's Bella Alarie, a 6-foot-4 junior guard/forward, led all scorers with 18 points and blocked four shots. Alarie's father, Mark, was a basketball standout at Duke.

UNH also closed out the calendar year with Saturday's game.
The Wildcats play the University of Maine in Bangor at the Cross Insurance Center on Wednesday at 7 p.m. to open their America East season.
Maine lost to Fordham, 72-64 in overtime, in the first round of the Fordham Holiday Classic on Saturday. The Black Bears fell to 7-5. They play Chattanooga on Sunday.
The Wildcats play their first league home game against Binghamton on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 1 p.m.

Storey led UNH in scoring for the 11th time in the team's 13 games this season.
She made four of her 11 field goal attempts and five of her six free throws. She was one-for-two in three-point baskets.
Storey also contributed three steals, two assists and two rebounds to the cause.
Junior guard Caroline Soucy (Beverly, Mass.) had eight points and led all players in the game with nine rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Down 9-2 early, the Wildcats got it back to 9-8 with three points from senior forward Alli Gribbin (Keller, Texas) and a three-pointer by Storey. Princeton led 25-13 after one period.
The Tigers upped the edge to 45-22 at the half. Storey led UNH with nine points in the first half. Soucy had five points and six rebounds at the break.
A layup by Gribbin made it 52-32 with 5:26 left in the third period.
The Tigers were up 66-37 with one period to play.
They were 33-for-61 (54.1 percent) in their field goal attempts in the game, including 10 of 21 (47.6 percent) from behind the three-point line.
