Storey Scores 20, 'Cats Fall in League Opener at Maine

BANGOR, Maine – Junior forward Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine) scored 20 points and pulled down six rebounds, but the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team dropped its America East opener at Maine, 67-46, on Wednesday night at Cross Insurance Center.
The Wildcats play Binghamton in their first league home game of the season Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Wildcats are 3-11 overall.
Maine is 8-6 for the season.
Tanesha Sutton had 15 points and 10 rebounds for Maine, Parise Rossignol had 18 points and Blanca Millan 13.
NEXT UP
The Wildcats face Binghamton on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Lundholm Gymnasium in their first home conference game of the season.
They are at UMass Lowell on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. and play Stony Brook on Saturday, Jan. 12 at 1 p.m. in Lundholm.

HIGHLIGHTS
Storey hit double figures in points for the 13th straight game. The only time she has not scored at least 10 points in a game was the season opener against Minnesota.
It was the seventh time this season she has scored at least 20 points.
Storey has led UNH in scoring 12 times in the team's 14 games this season.
Junior guard Caroline Soucy (Beverly, Mass.) scored nine points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Black Bears opened a 17-8 lead after one period.
Storey led the Wildcats with eight points and four rebounds in the first half. Maine had a 34-20 lead at the half.
Senior forward Alli Gribbin (Keller, Texas) had six points at the half on a pair of three-pointers.
The 'Cats outscored Maine 11-4 to the end of the quarter and it was 47-31 with a period to go.
A Storey drive and steal and layup by Soucy cut Maine's lead to 54-39 with 5:54 to play.
The Black Bears opened the lead up from there.
