The senior defender will continue her playing career after four years as a Wildcat.
DURHAM, N.H. – University of New Hampshire senior defender Jenna Rheault (Deering, N.H.) was selected 25th overall by the Boston Pride in the 2018 NWHL draft on Thursday, December 20, 2018.
Rheault, a stay-at-home defender, has appeared in 18 of 19 games for the Wildcats this season, and 125 total in her career. Rheault has a career stat-line of four goals, and 10 assists for 14 points. So far this season, Rheault has blocked 29 shots (second-highest on the team).
For the 2017-18 season, Rheault was awarded the team's Sue Merz 7th Player award for her clutch defensive play in key situations and on the penalty kill. Rheault was a crucial member of the Wildcats' penalty kill that only allowed 23 power-play goals in the 2017-18 season. So far this season, the Rheault and the Wildcats continue to play strong while down a skater, as they've allowed just five power-play goals this season on 62 chances.
Off the ice, Rheault, an occupational therapy major, also excels in the classroom, and was an inductee of the Chi Alpha Sigma national collegiate athletic honors society in 2018. Rheault has also made the Hockey East All-Academic Team three times in her career.
Rheault becomes the third-ever active Wildcat to be drafted in the NWHL after teammates Julia Fedeski '18 and Amy Schlagel '18 were selected in the 2017 draft. Rheault will join several former Wildcats in the pro league, including UNH standout Jonna Curtis '17, who currently plays for the Minnesota Whitecaps.
The Boston Pride are currently tied for first in the NWHL, tied with 12 points (6-2-0) with the Minnesota Whitecaps. The Pride add Rheualt to their defensive corps that have allowed the second-lowest goals in the league with 17 on the year.
"I am very proud of Jenna," says head coach Hilary Witt. "She is a great person, teammate and hockey player. Her work ethic and commitment to excellence on the ice, in the weight room and in the classroom has propelled her to this achievement."
