Wildcats Take Down Crusaders 4-1

Goals from Taylor, Pelletier, Wenczkowski and Turner overcome a 1-0 deficit.
WORCESTER, Mass. – The University of New Hampshire women's hockey team found themselves down 1-0 to Hockey East newcomers, the Holy Cross Crusaders, at the first intermission. The Wildcats would go on to score four unanswered goals, two in each of the remaining periods, to secure their second Hockey East victory of the year.
Goals came from senior Devan Taylor (North Billerica, Mass.), senior captain Marie-Jo Pelletier (Dalhousie, New Brunswick), junior Taylor Wenczkowski (Rochester, N.H.) and junior Carlee Turner (Scottsdale, Ariz.).
The Wildcats return home to play their first non-conference games since the start of the season when they welcome Rensselaer to the Whittemore Center for a two-game series on Saturday, November 24 and Sunday, November 25. GAME RECAP
- Holy Cross struck first, scoring 9:26 into the first period and led 1-0 going into the first intermission, despite trailing in shots on goal 16-6.
- The Wildcats wasted no time in the second period answering back, as Devan Taylor's goal came just 3:45 into the period, assisted by Carlee Turner and Emily Rickwood (Brantford, Ontario).
- The second period saw 22 UNH shots to Holy Cross' 10. The game was tied 1-1 for most of the second period until Marie-Jo Pelletier sent in the go-ahead goal with just two seconds left in the period. Her goal was assisted by Tori Howran (Bancroft, Ontario) and Devan Taylor.
- The Wildcats tallied two more in the third to put the game out of reach; a power play goal by Taylor Wenczkowski from Tori Howran came just 3:44 into the period, and just over a minute later an even-strength goal from Carlee Turner, from Tori Palumbo (Ayer, Mass.) and Nicole Dunbar (Coto de Caza, Calif.) gave the 'Cats a 4-1 victory.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- Freshman forward Tori Palumbo saw her first action for the women's ice hockey team, after playing 18 games with six starts for the UNH field hockey team. Her assist was her first of her collegiate ice hockey career.
- The win snaps a nine-game winless streak for the Wildcats (0-8-1).
- With points in today's game, Carlee Turner, Emily Rickwood, and Marie-Jo Pelletier are now on two-game scoring streaks.
- Before today's win, the Wildcats were 0-3-0 when trailing after the first period and 0-9-0 when their opponents scored first.
