Lane Tallies Two Assists, Wildcats Defeat Bearcats 2-1

Liz Lane's assists to Gaby Dorsey and Kaylan Williams were enough for the Wildcats as they start the season 1-0-0 in conference.
DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore Liz Lane (Porter, Maine) assisted on two goals and fellow sophomore Kaylan Williams (Marion, Ind.) scored a late go-ahead goal as the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team opened up the America East portion of their schedule with a 2-1 victory over Binghamton.
Lane assisted both Williams on her third goal of the season and also the first goal of the game, a rebound by junior Gaby Dorsey (Hubertus, Wisc.) for her second goal of the season. Lane now has three assists on the season.
UP NEXT:
UNH will continue America East play as they travel to Vermont on Thursday, September 28 at 7 p.m. They return home the following Sunday, October 1, for a 2 p.m. kickoff with Albany for Senior Day.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- UNH held possession for most of the first half.
- Williams started the game off with a great opening to goal in the 7th minute but missed the shot just wide.
- Veronica Hardy (North Smithfield, R.I.) continued the pressure with a great service into the box, but the ball was just beat out by the Binghamton goalkeeper Katie Hatziyianis.
- In the 15th minute, Dora Hayes had a good scoring opportunity for the Bearcats, but the shot missed high.
- In the 16th minute Brooke Murphy (Monson, Mass.) tried to put one past Hatziyianis but it just missed on the right side of the right post.
- After a scoreless first, Binghamton came back out in the second half ready to reclaim possession.
- In the 48th minute, senior captain Mia Neas (Old Saybrook, Conn.) made a diving save to set the tone for the second half.
- Murphy had another chance in the 50th minute, but Hatziyianis was able to just poke it away for the corner.
- In the 57th minute, on one of Binghamton's many corner kicks, Neas was able to make a key snag in traffic to prevent an attack on goal.
- Dorsey's goal came in the 64th minute, after a shot was put on goal by Lane. Lane was fed by Murphy from left midfield, and Lane took the pass up the right side, beat a defender, and forced Hatziyianis to make a save, but she couldn't control it as Dorsey hit it straight on for the first strike of the game.
- In the 73rd minute, Binghamton would strike back as Kayla Saager beat several UNH defenders and took a shot from 15 yards out, just beating Neas.
- With the game tied 1-1, in the 78th minute Saager had another opportunity on a free kick from about 25 yards out. Neas made a diving save to her right to prevent the go-ahead goal.
- After several close calls, Williams got her shot from the top of the box, as she got the feed from Lane and fired it across the box, beating the keeper left side.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- UNH outshot Binghamton 9-2 in the first half; Binghamton outshot UNH 9-8 in the second.
- Neas made seven saves total, six in the second half.
- After having no corner kicks in the first half, Binghamton had six in the second.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- The win gives UNH a 1-0-0 conference record for the fourth straight season.
- The Wildcats are now 5-0-0 at home this season.
- Binghamton had the only winning percentage higher than UNH entering the game (.750 vs. .667).
- The Battle of the 'Cats is still in favor of UNH, who hold a 9-5-6 record against Binghamton.
- The Wildcats are now at 7-3-0 overall; It's their best record in 10 games since 1991 when New Hampshire was 7-2-1 overall.
