Wildcats in Second Place after First Day of AE Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. – The University of New Hampshire women's swimming and diving team is in second place after the first day of the America East Championships Thursday. The event is taking place at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Mass.
Day One Team Scores:
In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the quartet of Corinne Carbone (Medway, Mass.), Liza Baykova (Moscow, Russia), Sarah Broderick (Haverhill, Mass.) and Brittany Moffatt (Cedar Falls, Iowa) collectively earned 34 points as they tagged the wall in second place with a time of 7:18.05, nearly 13 seconds faster than the seed time of 7:31.88.
Hailee Miller (Milton, Mass.) took third place in the 1-meter dive as she tallied a score of 216.10 points, earning the team 16 points in the overall standings. Sophomore Erin Cullather (Highland Park, Ill.) came in fourth with 205.70 points while sophomore Sarah Haggerty (Burlington, Vt.) took fourth with 187.15 points.
The Wildcats took silver in the 200-yard medley relay as the quartet of Broderick, Milana Evsten (Stockholm, Sweden), Colby Harvey (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and Baykova collectively tallied a time of 1:41.34, a new UNH record. The previous record of 1:41.70 was set in 2011.
Tomorrow's events consist of the 500-yard freestyle, the 200-yard individual medley, the 50-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle relay. The preliminaries start at 10 a.m. with the finals beginning at 6 p.m.
