Baykova Takes First in 50-Yard Free as Wildcats in Second Place after Day Two of AE Champs

WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Liza Baykova (Moscow, Russia) of the University of New Hampshire women's swimming and diving team took first place in the 50-yard freestyle at the America East Championships Friday night held at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Baykova touched the wall to a time of 23.09 seconds to earn 20 points for the Wildcats.

Baykova also took first place in the preliminaries of the 50-yard freestyle. Sophomore Brittany Moffatt (Cedar Falls, Iowa) took second place in the grueling 500-yard freestyle as she came in with a time of four minutes, 56.56 seconds, nearly a two second improvement from her preliminaries. Bridget Miller (Longmeadow, Mass.) took fourth in the event with a time of 4:58.24. In the B-final, freshman Julia Rucker (Salem, N.H.) was tops with a time of 5:05.42.
In the 200-yard individual medley, junior Colby Harvey (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) came in second place with a time of 2:01.47 after clocking in at 2:02.63 in the preliminaries. Freshman Corinne Carbone (Medway, Mass.) took third with a time of 2:01.59.
In the final event of the day, the 200-yard freestyle relay, the quartet of Baykova, Harvey, freshman Milana Evsten (Stockholm, Sweden) and Sarah Broderick (Haverhill, Mass.) tagged the wall in third with a time of 1:33.76. The top three teams came in in the one minute, 33 second range.
