Magarity's Team Opens League Play Wednesday at Home at 11 a.m.
DURHAM, N.H. – Senior forwards Olivia Healy (Reading, Mass.) and Kat Fogarty (Westminster, Mass.) scored 16 and 15 points respectively to lead the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team to a 48-45 win over Cornell University on Friday night in Lundholm Gymnasium.
The Wildcats improved to 9-4 overall while closing out the non-conference portion of their schedule. They are 5-0 at home.
UNH, the defending America East regular season champion, opens league play with a game against UMBC at home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. for Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day.
Healy also led the Wildcats with seven rebounds and had a couple of steals and a block. She was five-for-eight in field goals.
Senior guard Brittni Lai (Irvington, N.Y.) had 10 points and a career-high five steals.
NEXT UP
The Wildcats open the America East portion of their schedule Wednesday, Jan. 3 at 11 a.m. against the UMBC Retrievers in Lundholm Gymnasium for Faculty/Staff Appreciation Day.
The Wildcats will then go on the road for two games in a row, at Albany on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 2 p.m. and at Binghamton on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m.

HIGHLIGHTS
For the second straight game, the Wildcats held their opponent under 50 points. They beat Sacred Heart, 74-47, in their most recent game on Dec. 21. The 45 points were the lowest total allowed against a Division I rival this season.
UNH went 10-3 going into America East play last season and proceeded to go 15-1 in regular season league play and finished 26-6 overall.
The Wildcats played Cornell without senior center Carlie Pogue (Cincinnati, Ohio), their leading scorer and last year's America East Player of the Year. She missed the game with an injury. It was the first game Pogue has missed in her UNH career and she had started 51 straight contests.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UNH scored the first six points of the game and Cornell had seven of the next eight. The Big Red led 12-11 after one period.
Lai's 14-footer put UNH up 15-13 with 8:02 left in the second period. Cornell opened up a 25-20 halftime lead from there.
Healy and Lai each had eight points in the half and Fogarty had four, but they were the only Wildcats scorers in the first 20 minutes.
Cornell had 19 rebounds to UNH's 12 at the beak.
A 23-14 edge in the third period put the 'Cats up 43-39 with one period to go.
Cornell tied things at 45-45 with 2:59 left in the fourth period on a Jessica Willerson basket.
A Fogarty layup with 49 seconds left and Healy foul shot with 13 seconds to go closed out the scoring.
