Pogue Leads 'Cats to 8th Straight Win, 4-0 Record in League

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Junior center Carlie Pogue (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored 15 points and had 12 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season to lead the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team to its eighth straight win, a 57-49 triumph over Vermont in Patrick Gymnasium on Monday afternoon.
The Wildcats improved to 14-3 overall and continued their best start to a season since 1981-82. The eight consecutive wins matches UNH's longest streak since 1982-83. The Wildcats are now 4-0 in America East, matching their 2013-14 start to league play. Vermont fell to 4-13 and 1-4.
Junior forward Kat Fogarty (Westminster, Mass.) led UNH in scoring with 17 points.

The Wildcats return home to face Maine on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. in a game to be televised on ESPN3. They play Hartford at home on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 1 p.m., again on ESPN3, on Alumni Day. An Alumni Game, open to all former Wildcats, will be played Sunday at 10 a.m.

HIGHLIGHTS
Fogarty led three Wildcats in double figures in scoring. Besides Pogue with her 15 points, junior guard Aliza Simpson (Londonderry, N.H.) had 11 points.
The Wildcats followed up a Saturday win at Binghamton with their sixth straight road win. They dropped their first two games away from home this season and have won their last half dozen on the road.
Overall, UNH has won 13 of its last 14 games.
The Wildcats had 41 rebounds to Vermont's 31. It was the second game in a row and sixth time this season that UNH has had at least 10 more rebounds than its opponent.
The Wildcats continue to lead America East in rebounding margin.
Pogue collected the 10th double-double of her career. She had a single double-double last year and five as a freshman.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fogarty had five points and three rebounds in the first period to help UNH build a 10-6 lead at the first break.
The Catamounts closed the gap to 21-19 midway through the period, but UNH pulled away again late and was up 27-21 at the half. Pogue led the way in the first half with eight points and six rebounds.
Fogarty scored the first six points of the third quarter to open the lead to 33-23 and the Wildcats maintained the 10-point edge after three quarters at 45-35.
Vermont got the lead down to 52-49 with less than two minutes to go. Olivia Healy (Reading, Mass.) and Pogue answered with layups and UNH widened the gap again.
