Pogue's 22 Points Lead Women's Hoops to 67-59 Victory at UMBC

BALTIMORE, Md. – Sophomore center Carlie Pogue (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored 22 points and led the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team to a 67-59 win over the University of Maryland Baltimore County on Sunday afternoon at the RAC Arena.
UNH finishes the regular season 12-17 overall and 6-10 in America East. UMBC drops to 17-12 overall and now is 8-8 in league play. The Wildcats earned a regular-season series split with the Retrievers.

The America East tournament opens with quarterfinal games at the Events Center at Binghamton University on Saturday, March 5. New Hampshire will be the seventh seed and face either the University at Albany or the University of Maine, at a time still to be determined. Tickets are available by calling the Binghamton box office at (607) 777-2849.
HIGHLIGHTS
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wildcats struggled in the early minutes, shooting just 1 of 8 going into the opening media timeout. Led by Taylor McCarley's nine first-quarter points, the Retrievers built a ten-point lead early in the second quarter. UNH was able to bounce back after a 9-0 run. A three-point play from Ashley Storey (Cumberland, Maine) and six points from Carlie Pogue (Cincinnati, Ohio) gave the Wildcats their first lead, 25-24.
Sophomore Peyton Booth (Wadsworth, Ohio) opened the second half with a steal and a block. The teams traded foul shots and layups until Liz McNaughton hit a three pointer to extend UMBC's lead to 36-29 with 6:47 left in the quarter. It was the Retrievers last lead of the game, as the Wildcats ensuing 11-0 run gave them the lead back.
Elizabeth Belanger (Acton, Mass.) and Kristen Anderson (Greene, Maine) knocked down three pointers in the early minutes of the first quarter and UNH opened up a nine-point lead, its largest of the game.
With 2:31 Amanda Hagaman completed a three-point play to pull the Retrievers within two. Belanger knocked down a jumper and Pandora Wilson hit one of two free throws to bring the score to 62-59 with 1:58 remaining. Anderson drilled a trey from the corner and Belanger hit the final jumper to close out the contest.
