Dunbar Honored As Hockey East Rookie of the Week
- Freshman forward Nicole Dunbar (Coto de Caza, Calif.) was named Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week by Hockey East on Dec. 5. It is her first collegiate accolade and is the second consecutive week a UNH Wildcat has been honored as the league's Rookie of the Week. (Meghara McManus)
- Dunbar scored a goal in both games of last weekend's home-and-home series against Merrimack College to help UNH earn a sweep of the Warriors that extended the Wildcats' unbeaten streak to four games (3-0-1).
- In last Friday's 5-2 win at Lawler Rink, Dunbar's second-period goal broke a 1-1 tie and put UNH ahead to stay.
- Then on Saturday in Durham, her power-play goal in the second period gave UNH a 3-1 lead and proved to be the game-winning goal in a 4-2 victory.
- In the two games, Dunbar tallied five shots and a +1 rating.
- Dunbar's three-game goal streak is the longest by a Wildcat since October 2014 (Jonna Curtis, three games).
The Series : UNH vs. Yale
- UNH has a 19-0-1 lifetime record against Yale University that includes 9-0-1 on the road.
- One year ago (Dec. 13, 2015), the Wildcats skated to a 5-2 victory at the Whittemore Center.
- Prior to last year, these programs had not faced off since Oct. 25, 2008 (UNH 5-3 home win), when current UNH head coach Hilary Witt was the head coach at Yale; during her nine-year tenure at Yale, Witt had an 0-4-1 record against her current team.
- It's been more than 11 years since the Wildcats traveled to New Haven, Conn. In the most recent matchup at Ingalls Rink, UNH prevailed 5-2 on Nov. 13, 2005.
- This series began in November 1993 with New Hampshire skating to a 12-0 win on home ice. The Wildcats con the first 15 meetings before the 1-1 tie at Ingalls Rink on Nov. 16, 2003.
Holiday Break
- Saturday's game at Yale is UNH's last of the 2016 calendar year. The Wildcats return to action Jan. 6 at Northeastern University. New Hampshire's next home game is Jan. 7 against NU.
- When they return from break, the 'Cats have 12 regular-season games remaining, only one of which is against a non-league opponent (Jan. 10 at Dartmouth).

The State of New Hampshire
- UNH enters the weekend with a 7-11-1 overall record that includes 6-6-1 in Hockey East and 2-5-1 on the road; the Wildcats are unbeaten (1-0-1) the past two road games.
- New Hampshire has a season-best four-game unbeaten streak following last weekend's home-and-home series sweep of Merrimack College. The Wildcats skated to a 5-2 road win (Dec. 2) and 4-2 win at home (Dec. 3).
- The Wildcats are 4-1-1 the past six games are 7-6-1 the last 14 games after starting the season with five losses.
- The Wildcats have a 1-5-0 non-league record, including 0-2-0 on the road (the season-opening two-game series at nationally-ranked Colgate University).
- The last time UNH faced off against a non-league team was Nov. 15 and the 'Cats prevailed 3-2 in overtime against Harvard University.
- All three of UNH's overtime games were in November, and the 'Cats have a 1-1-1 record in OT.
- New Hampshire is 3-1 in games decided by one goal and that includes 1-1 in overtime.
- New Hampshire is averaging 2.26 goals and 25.8 shots per game while yielding 3.21 goals and 31.8 shots per game. On special teams, the 'Cats are 8-for-73 (11.0%) on the power play and 70 of 80 (87.5%) on the penalty kill.
'Cat Nips
- Freshman forward Carlee Turner (Scottsdale, Ariz.) has a three-game assist streak and has tallied an assist five of the last six games. Turner has a team-high 10 assists and is second in points (11).
- Junior defenseman Amy Schlagel (Blaine, Minn.) matched her personal best of two assists as part of a career-high three points Dec. 2 at Merrimack.
- Junior forward Kate Haslett (Rothesay, New Brunswick) recorded her first career multiple-goal game with two scores in Saturday's 4-2 home win vs. Merrimack; she potted goals 7:18 apart to transform a one-goal deficit into a one-goal lead UNH would not relinquish. The two points matched her personal best that she accomplished once before.
- Junior forward Caitlyn Radatovich (Advance, N.C.) and freshman forward Hannah Touzos (Foxboro, Mass.) both recorded their first career point with an assist on Kate Haslett's second goal last Saturday.
- Senior forward and captain Jonna Curtis (Elk River, Minn.) recorded her third multiple-goal game and seventh multiple-point game of the season with a two-goal effort in last Friday's 5-2 win at Merrimack.
New Hampshire Notes
- UNH's 6-6-1 record in Hockey East is the team's best conference record through 13 games since the 2012-13 team had that identical record.
- The Wildcats trailed for a total of only 35 seconds in the two-game series vs. Merrimack. The Warriors scored first Saturday at the Whittemore Center, but the Wildcats tied the score 35 seconds later.
- UNH's five goals in the 5-2 win last Friday at Lawler Rink marked the team's second-highest goal output of the season; the Wildcats scored a season-high six goals in a 6-2 victory vs. MC in mid-October.

- Hilary Cashin is 3-0-1 with a 1.72 GAA and .926 save percentage during UNH's four-game unbeaten streak.
- Amy Schlagel has a team-high five points (2g, 3a).
- Nicole Dunbar is the top goal scorer (three goals) and is tied with Jonna Curtis (2g, 2a) at four points.

- Jonna Curtis is tied for fifth in Hockey East in goals (11) and tied for 10th in points (19). She is fourth in power-play points (eight) and ranks fourth in shots (82).
- Julia Fedeski (Algonquin Highlands, Ontario) is tied for third in power-play goals with four, while Curtis is tied for eighth in that stat with three PPG.
- Curtis and Amy Schlagel are tied for sixth in game-winning goals with two.
- Fedeski is tied for 10th in defenseman scoring with nine points (5g, 4a).

Emerging No. 1
- Sophomore goaltender Hilary Cashin appears to have emerged as the No. 1 starter. She has started each of the last four games; prior to that, she and classmate Kyra Smith (Littleton, Colo.) had alternated starts for 16 games.
- Cashin, who saw limited action in three games last season, has a 2.56 GAA and .909 save percentage with a 6-4-1 record in 12 games (11 starts); she is 5-1-1 in her last four decisions; Cashin is also 5-1-1 in Hockey East with a 2.60 GAA and .894 save percentage.
- In addition to her career-high 41 saves Oct. 23 vs. Clarkson, Cashin made 32 saves (on 35 shots) in her first game of the season, a 3-1 loss at eighth-ranked Colgate (Oct. 2). Cashin recorded her second 40+ save effort in the 3-2 overtime win vs. Harvard on Nov. 16.
- Cashin stopped 21 shots vs. Merrimack to earn her first career win Oct. 15.
- Smith made 32 or more saves each of her first five games, and that included 38 saves in the season-opening 4-2 loss at No 8 Colgate and 36 saves at No. 9 Boston University.
- Smith made a personal-best 39 saves Nov. 19 at PC (6-3 loss) with 15 saves in the first period, 14 in the second and 10 in the third.

- Jonna Curtis recorded her 75th career point when she scored her sixth goal of the season – 39th of her career – Nov. 5 at Providence

Stopping Shots
- UNH's goaltenders are averaging 28.6 saves per game with a breakdown of Kyra Smith at 30.6 and Hilary Cashin at 24.8.
- Those numbers declined last week with Cashin recording a total of 33 saves in the two-game series against Merrimack.
- Opponents have recorded the shot advantage in 13 of 19 games, but UNH has fired more shots each of the last three games.
- The Wildcats limited Merrimack to a season-low 18 shots last Saturday, one day after the Warriors were held to 19 shots.

Strength of Schedule
- Seven of UNH's first eight games were against nationally-ranked teams.

Scouting the Bulldogs

- On Thanksgiving weekend, the Bulldogs competed in the 2016 Nutmeg Classic with a 1-1 tie against University of Connecticut (advanced to title game by winning the shootout 3-2) and 4-3 loss against Merrimack College.
- Yale had lost four consecutive games before the Nutmeg Classic.
- The Bulldogs started the season with two victories against RIT.
- Senior forward Phoebe Staenz is the team leader in goals (9) and second in points (15). Classmate and ECAC Hockey Player of the Month, Krista Yip-Chuck, leads the teams in points (18) and assists (12), and is second in goals (6). Junior forward Eden Murray also has 15 points and is second on the team in assists with 11. Sophomore Taylor Marchin also has double-digit points (12) on four goals and eight assists.
- In net for the Bulldogs, a majority of the minutes have been split between freshman Tera Hofmann and senior Hanna Mandl. In seven games (all starts), Hofmann is 2-3-2 with a 2.65 GAA and .913 save percentage. In five games (three starts), Mandl is 2-1-0 with a 1.93 GAA and .911 save percentage.
- Yale is averaging 3.00 goals and 33.1 shots per game while allowing 2.67 goals and 28.5 shots per game.
- The Bulldogs are 9 of 54 (16.7%) on the power play and 45-for-53 (84.9%) on the penalty kill.
- Also of note, Yale has a 4-2-2 when scoring first and 0-4-0 when falling behind 1-0.
