The Series : UNH at Providence
- One of the longest rivalries in women's college hockey continues Saturday with the 146th meeting between New Hampshire and Providence.
- UNH has a 78-53-14 lead in the series, which began in December 1977, but PC has won four of the last five meetings, including a 2-1-0 record last season.
- The Wildcats have a 28-25-6 road record against the Friars.
- In last year's only matchup at Schneider Arena (Nov. 7, 2015), Providence trailed 4-2 at the start of the third period but netted three goals – including the game-tying, extra-attacker goal at 18:40 and game-winning goal at 19:19 – to rally for a 5-4 victory.
- The 2015-16 season series ended with a two-game set at the Whittemore Center (Nov. 21-22). UNH won 3-2 on Saturday but PC skated to a 4-1 win the next day.
- New Hampshire has lost each of the last two matchups at Schneider Arena. The Wildcats' most recent road win vs. the Friars was Dec. 5, 2014 (5-0).
The Series : UNH vs. UConn
- New Hampshire has a 41-10-5 lifetime record, including 21-4-3 at home, against UConn. The teams have split the last five games at the Whittemore Center at 2-2-1.
- UNH won the season series, 2-1-0, but the Huskies ousted the Wildcats from the Hockey East quarterfinals with a 2-0 sweep at Freitas Ice Forum.
- In the first matchup of the 2015-16 season (Nov. 8), UNH skated to a 2-1 win on the road. The teams faced off again in the last weekend of the regular season for a two-game series at the Whitt. The 'Cats once again prevailed by a 2-1 score, but then UConn was a 2-1 overtime victor in the finale.
- One week later, the teams met in a best-of-three Hockey East quarterfinal series at UConn. New Hampshire recorded a 46-25 shot advantage in the opener, but the Huskies scored the first three goals of the game and held on for a 3-2 victory. The next day, in the second longest game in program history, UConn outlasted the 'Cats to record a 4-3 victory at 3:17 of the third overtime session; the Huskies scored at 7:31 and 19:19 of the third period to force OT.
- Including that triple overtime game, four of the last eight meetings have gone into OT; during that span, only one game was decided by more than one goal (UNH 3-1 win, Jan. 18, 2015).

The State of New Hampshire
- UNH enters the weekend with a 2-7-0 overall record that includes 2-4-0 at home and 0-3-0 on the road, as well as 2-2-0 in Hockey East; that includes 2-1-0 in league home games and 0-1-0 on the road in Hockey East.
- The Wildcats are coming off last Friday's 4-2 home win against the University of Vermont and are 2-3-0 the past five games.
- New Hampshire is averaging 1.89 goals and 24.3 shots per game while yielding 3.22 goals and 34.7 shots per game. On special teams, the 'Cats are 5-for-40 (12.5%) on the power play and 45 of 48 (93.8%) on the penalty kill.
Killin' It
- New Hampshire's penalty kill was perfect for the third consecutive game with a 7-for-7 effort against Vermont last Friday.
- The Wildcats, who have killed off 21 consecutive opponent power plays, rank No. 5 in the nation in penalty kill at 93.8%.
'Cat Nips
- Senior forward and captain Jonna Curtis (Elk River, Minn.) extended her point streak to four games with two assists against Vermont last Friday. She has 5-3-8 in that span.
- Sophomore defenseman Jenna Rheault (Deering, N.H.) recorded a career-high two points with a goal and an assist against Vermont last Friday. She scored the game's first goal then set up the next tally 5 minutes, 5 seconds later to give UNH a 2-0 lead.
- Sophomore forward Devan Taylor (North Billerica, Mass.) matched her career highs in both assists and points with a two-assist effort vs. UVM.
- Sophomore goalie Kyra Smith (Littleton, Colo.) earned her first win of the season by stopping 33 of 35 shots for a .943 save percentage in UNH's 4-2 victory against the Catamounts on Oct. 28. Smith made 16 saves in the second stanza and held UVM scoreless in the third period on 11 shots
Last Time Out
- New Hampshire skated to a 4-2 victory against the University of Vermont at the Whittemore Center on Oct. 28.
- The Wildcats took a 2-0 lead but UVM responded with a goal 30 seconds later to trim the margin to one goal at 8:34 of the first period.
- UNH netted power-play goals at 14:42 and 19:43 to take a 4-1 lead, as well as 15-7 shot advantage, into the first intermission.
- Vermont struck again at 2:02 of the second stanza and had four power plays in that period, but could get no closer than 4-2.
- The visitors pulled goalie Madison Litchfield, who entered the game at the start of the second period, with 3:03 remaining in the third period but UNH preserved the two-goal lead for the win.
- Jonna Curtis (2a), Jenna Rheault (1g, 1a) and DevanTaylor (2a) all recorded two points.
- Julia Fedeski (Algonquin Highlands, Ontario), Meghara McManus (Milton, Mass.) and Amy Schlagel (Blaine, Minn.) scored UNH's other goals.
- Kyra Smith finished with 33 saves.
October Recap
- UNH went 2-7-0 in October with a split of 2-4-0 at home and 0-3-0 on the road, as well as 2-2-0 in Hockey East league games.
- The Wildcats opened the season with five consecutive losses – all to nationally-ranked teams – before defeating Merrimack College, 6-2, Oct. 15.
- New Hampshire ended October on a high note with a 4-2 home win against the University of Vermont on Oct. 28.
- Jonna Curtis led the 'Cats in goals (five), power-play goals (two), assists (five), points (10), shots (30) and shooting percentage (.167); her stats also included 4-2-6 in four Hockey East league games. Curtis tallied three multiple-point games, including a career-high four goals vs. Merrimack.
- Carlee Turner (Scottsdale, Ariz.) led UNH rookies – and ranked second on the team – in both assists (four) and points (five). In four Hockey East league games, Turner compiled 1-3-4. Her highlights included a one-goal, two-assist effort against Merrimack.
- UNH scored 10 of its 17 goals in its two victories.
Strength of Schedule
- Seven of UNH's first eight games were against nationally-ranked teams.
- The Wildcats opened the 2016-17 season with two games at No. 8 Colgate, then played at No. 9 Boston University followed by home games against No. 3 Quinnipiac, No. 5 Boston College and No. 8 Clarkson (twice).
Stopping Shots
- UNH's goaltenders are averaging 31.4 saves per game with a breakdown of Kyra Smith (Littleton, Colo.) at 34.4 and Hilary Cashin at 27.8.
- The opponents have tallied 40-plus shots three times and recorded the shot advantage in eight of nine games; UNH tallied a 27-23 shot advantage Oct. 15 vs. Merrimack.
The Puck Stops Here
- Sophomore goaltenders Kyra Smith and Hilary Cashin have alternated starts with both getting four starts through eight games.
- Smith has made at least 32 saves every game this season, and that includes a career-high 38 saves in the season-opening 4-2 loss at No 8 Colgate and 36 saves at No. 9 Boston University. In four games, she has a 3.57 GAA and .908 save percentage.
- Cashin, who saw limited action in three games last season, has a 2.53 GAA and .917 save percentage. In addition to her career-high 41 saves last Sunday vs. Clarkson, she made 32 saves (on 35 shots) in her first game of the season, a 3-1 loss at eighth-ranked Colgate (Oct. 2).
- Cashin made 21 saves vs. Merrimack to earn her first career win Oct. 15
Block That Shot
- Sophomore Jenna Rheault has blocked a team-high 17 shots, followed closely by junior Amy Schlagel (Blaine, Minn.) with 16.
Strong Starts
- UNH has outscored the opposition 7-5 in the first period; however, the Wildcats have been outscored 16-4 in the third period.
First Blood
- New Hampshire has a 2-2-0 record when scoring the game's first goal, and the 'Cats are winless the five games they have fallen behind 1-0.
Scouting the Friars
- Providence College (Providence, R.I.) has a 5-5-0 overall record that includes 2-1-0 in Hockey East and 2-4-0 at home (1-0-0 in league home games). Providence is 5-2-0 the past seven games
- PC is coming off two consecutive Hockey East wins. The Friars defeated Maine, 3-2, at home and Merrimack on the road, 6-2.
- Junior forward Brooke Boquist and sophomore defender Kate Friesen both netted two goals to lead Providence over Merrimack.
- Senior forward Cassidy Carels has a team-high 12 points on six goals and six assists.
- Boquist is tied with Carels for the team lead in goals and with sophomore Christina Putigna for second in points with 10. Putigna is atop PC's assist leaderboard with seven.
- Senior Alanna Serviss and sophomore Madison Myers have split the goaltending duties. Myers started the initial five games of the season but Serviss has been the starter each of the last five games.
- Serviss is 3-2-0 with a 3.21 GAA and .880 save percentage; Myers is 2-3-0 with a 2.01 GAA and .922 save percentage.
- Providence is averaging 3.40 goals and 32.8 shots per game while allowing 2.8 goals and 26.4 shots per game.
- PC is 11-for-57 (19.3%) on the power play and 63 of 73 (86.3%) on the penalty kill.
Scouting the Huskies
- The University of Connecticut (Storrs, Conn.) has a 4-4-1 overall record that includes 0-2-0 in Hockey East and 3-2-0 on the road – 0-1-0 in league road games.
- UConn is coming off two straight league losses after dropping both matchups against nationally-ranked Boston College last weekend. The Huskies lost 3-0 at home and 5-1 on the road.
- Prior to last weekend, UConn had a three-game unbeaten streak (2-0-1) with a 4-1 win at Rensselaer followed by a scoreless tie and 4-2 win vs. Penn State.
- Junior goaltender Annie Belanger recorded a total of 75 saves against the Eagles in the back-to-back matchups. Her 228 saves on the season is third most in Hockey East, and her .942 save percentage is second best in the league.
- Junior forward Theresa Knutson leads the team in points with eight (5 goals, 3 assists).
- Junior defenseman Leah Lum (4-2-6) and freshman forward Briana Colangelo (1-5-6) are tied for second in points.
- In eight games (seven starts), Belanger is 2-4-1 with a 1.99 GAA and aforementioned .942 save percentage; she has one shutout.
- Freshman goalie Morgan Fisher is 2-0-0 with a 1.51 GAA and .943 save percentage in two games (two starts).
- UConn is averaging 1.78 goals and 25.9 shots per game while allowing 2.11 goals and 33.0 shots per game. The team is 3-0-0 when scoring first and 1-4-0 when falling behind 1-0.
- The Huskies are 4-for-34 (11.8%) on the power play and 41 of 46 (89.1%) on the penalty kill.
