Three 'Cats Record Two Points In 4-3 Win at Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Jonna Curtis (Elk River, Minn.), Meghara McManus (Milton, Mass.) and Carlee Toews (Grand Prairie, Alberta) recorded two points apiece to lift the University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team to Saturday afternoon's 4-3 victory against Providence College at Schneider Arena.
UNH won its second consecutive game to improve to 3-7-0 overall and 3-2-0 in Hockey East. PC is now 5-6-0, 2-2-0.
Curtis, McManus and Toews all finished with a goal and an assist. Hilary Cashin (Fredericton, New Brunswick) made 19 saves.

GAME RECAP
- Ali Praus (Long Lake, Minn.), with the assistance of McManus, scored her first goal of the season to give UNH an early 1-0 lead at 3:39 of the first period.
- Providence tied the score 27 seconds later on Cassidy MacPherson's goal at 4:06.
- Curtis, UNH's leading goal scorer and point producer, put the Wildcats back in front with an unassisted goal – her sixth tally of the season – at 17:47 of the opening stanza.
- New Hampshire took that 2-1 lead into the first intermission with PC holding an 8-6 shot advantage.
- The Friars once again leveled the score, 2-2 on Rachel Rockewell's goal at 3:46 of the second stanza.
- The 'Cats once again went back in front, however, as McManus tallied her second point of the game on her third goal of the season at 8:02. Toews was credited with an assist.
- UNH killed off a pair of PC power plays late in the period to take the 3-2 lead into the second intermission.
- Toews scored what proved to be the game-winning goal 23 seconds into the final frame when she gave New Hampshire a 4-2 lead. Curtis earned an assist to give both 'Cats their second point of the game on that tally.
- Christina Putigna netted an unassisted goal at 10:56 to trim the deficit to 4-3.
- The Friars pulled goaltender Madison Myers (16 saves) in the closing minutes but were kept at bay by the Wildcats.
'CAT NIPS
- Curtis extended her point streak to five games with her first-period goal. She has 10 points (6g, 4a) during the streak.
- McManus has a point in consecutive games for the first time in her young career. The freshman forward netted a goal last game vs. Vermont.
WILDCAT NOTEBOOK
