Curtis named Warrior Hockey East Player of the Week
Jonna Curtis was named Warrior Hockey East co-Player of the week on Monday. The senior forward and captain scored a career-high four goals to match her personal best of four points to propel UNH to its first win of the season, 6-2, against Merrimack College at the Whittemore Center on Oct. 15. Curtis became the first UNH Wildcat to score four goals in a game in more than a decade. She finished with a game-high six shots and +4 rating.
On the Air
Sunday's game vs. Clarkson is the first of seven games scheduled to be broadcast on the Wildcat Sports Radio Network. Four games in November – UConn (Nov. 6), BC (Nov. 11), Harvard (Nov. 15) and Providence (Nov. 20) – will also be on the air. The Wildcats return to the network Jan. 7 (Northeastern) and Jan. 21 (Maine). All seven games will also be streamed online.
The Series : UNH vs. Clarkson
The University of New Hampshire women's ice hockey team has a 6-4-0 lifetime record, including 4-0-0 at home, against Clarkson University. The Golden Knights have won each of the last three meetings – all on home ice, including last season's two-game series sweep at Cheel Arena (Potsdam, N.Y.). Prior to last October, these teams had not faced off since October 2011.
UNH's most recent victory was Oct. 22, 2010, by a score of 2-1 at the Whittemore Center.
In last year's games, the UNH Wildcats took on the No. 4 Clarkson Golden Knights. In the opener, the 'Cats took a 1-0 lead early in the first period and skated to a 1-1 tie through 20 minutes; Clarkson pulled away with a pair of second-period tallies en route to a 4-2 victory. The next day, Jonna Curtis (2g, 1a) and Kate Haslett (2a) recorded multiple points, but the Golden Knights secured a 6-4 victory on an empty-net goal with 92 seconds remaining.
The Wildcats won each of the first five meetings of this series, including four in the late '70s and early '80s. The series was dormant until October 2008, when UNH skated to a 2-1 victory.

UNH enters the weekend with a 1-5-0 overall record that includes 1-2-0 at home and 0-3-0 in non-conference games. Last weekend on home ice, the Wildcats recorded their first win of the season by a score of 6-2 vs. Merrimack College on Oct. 15. The previous night, fifth-ranked Boston College skated to a 4-1 victory at the Whittemore Center.
The six goals vs. MC marked UNH's highest total since Oct. 26, 2013, when the Wildcats won 8-5 at Penn State. In that game, eight Wildcats recorded a point, including three multiple-point efforts.
New Hampshire is averaging 1.83 goals and 23.8 shots per game while yielding 3.50 goals and 33.0 shots per game. On special teams, the 'Cats are .083 on the power play and .897 on the penalty kill.
Strength of Schedule
New Hampshire will face off against a fifth nationally-ranked team this weekend when No. 8 Clarkson travels to Durham for a two-game series. The Wildcats opened the 2016-17 season with two games at No. 8 Colgate, then played at No. 9 Boston University followed by home games against both No. 3 Quinnipiac and No. 5 Boston College. Jonna Curtis scored four goals Oct. 15 against Merrimack with one in the first period (1-0 lead), one in the second (3-1) and a pair of empty-netters in the third (5-2 and 6-2). The previous time a Wildcat scored four goals in a game was Oct. 22, 2005 (Leah Craig at Niagara University).
Turning It Up
Freshman forward Carlee Turner recorded her first career point with an assist last Friday against Boston College. The Oct. 15 win against Merrimack College was a notable one for Turner, who recorded her first career goal, first career-multiple-assist game (two) and personal-best three points.
Career Firsts
Sophomore goaltender Hilary Cashin recorded her first career win with a 21-save effort that backboned UNH to its first win of the season, a 6-2 victory vs. Merrimack College. She made nine saves on 10 shots in the third period to secure the victory, and the goal against that period was when the Warriors had a three-skater advantage (5-on-3 power play and an extra skater with the goalie pulled). Cashin held the visitors scoreless in the first period with five stops.
Freshman forward Meghara McManus recorded her first career point with a goal against Merrimack. Nicole Dunbar, another freshman forward, tallied her first point with an assist in that victory.
Personal Best
Sophomore defenseman and captain Marie-Jo Pelletier finished with two assists against MC to mark personal bests in both assists and points. Pelletier also tallied an assist vs. BC for a three-point weekend.
Keepin' The 'Cats Close
Sophomore goalie Kyra Smith kept the 'Cats within striking distance against fifth-ranked Boston College last Friday. She stopped 33 of 36 shots for a .917 save percentage. Smith made seven first-period saves and UNH trailed 1-0 at the first intermission. She stopped all 16 shots in the second stanza and the 'Cats tied the score, 1-1, heading into the third period. Smith made 10 more saves in the final frame, and the Eagles' final goal was an empty-netter with 67 seconds to play.
The Puck Stops Here
Sophomore goaltenders Kyra Smith and Hilary Cashin have alternated starts this season. Smith has made at least 33 saves all three games this season, including a career-high 38 saves in the season-opening 4-2 loss at No 8 Colgate and 36 saves at No. 9 Boston University. In three games, she has a 3.72 GAA and .907 save percentage.
Cashin, who saw limited action in three games last season, has a 2.36 GAA and .909 save percentage in three games. She made a personal-best 32 saves (on 35 shots) in her first game of the season, a 3-1 loss at eighth-ranked Colgate (Oct. 2). Cashin held the high-scoring Quinnipiac University squad scoreless through two periods and finished with 17 saves (two goals allowed). She made 21 saves vs. Merrimack to earn her first career win Oct. 15.
Scoring Leaders
Jonna Curtis leads the team in goals (four), points (six), shots (17) and shooting percentage (.235). Carlee Turner and Marie-Jo Pelletier are tied atop the assist leaderboard with three; Turner also has a goal to rank second in points with four.

Junior defenseman Amy Schlagel and sophomore blue liner Jenna Rheault are tied for the team lead in blocked shots with 13. Freshmen Lexie Revkin and Tori Howran follow at 10 and 9, respectively.

Clarkson University (Potsdam, N.Y.) enters the weekend with a 2-3-1 record that includes an 0-1 record on the road. The Golden Knights visit Durham on a two-game losing streak after falling to the top-ranked Wisconsin Badgers, 3-2 in OT and 4-1, at home last weekend. Clarkson opened the season with two home wins against Penn State, then the Golden Knights lost 2-1 at St. Lawrence and skated to a 3-3 tie against those Saints.
In last Friday's overtime loss, Clarkson entered the third period leading 2-1, before seeing the score evened midway through the third and the game-winning toal at 1:51 of the extra session. In Saturday's rematch, the teams entered the third period tied 1-1, but the visitors scored goals less than two minutes apart midway through the stanza and added another with under five minutes to play.
Sophomore defenseman Josiane Pozzebon (3g, 1a), senior forward Cayley Mercer (2g, 2a) and senior defenseman Corie Jacobson (2g, 2a) are tied for the team lead in points with four. Five skaters follow with three points apiece and that includes Loren Gabel and Rhyen McGill with two goals each. Junior goalie Shea Tiley is the only Golden Knight to play between the pipes this season; she has a 2.48 GAA and .910 save percentage.
