Armstrong's Career-High 26 Points Leads Men's Basketball Over Brown, 88-77

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior captain Jacoby Armstrong (Sachse, Texas) scored a career-high 26 points to propel the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team to an 88-77 victory over Brown University, Tuesday night at Pizzitola Sports Center.
The Wildcats won their second straight game and improved to 3-1 on the season. The Bears fell to 1-4 on their third straight loss.
Armstrong finished with a personal-best nine field goals and buried all eight of his free-throw attempts. Junior Jaleen Smith (Freeport, Texas) recorded a career-high 18 points on 4 of 9 shooting and also drilled eight free throws and two 3-pointers. Smith also tallied eight rebounds and six assists. Junior Daniel Dion (Cedar Park, Texas) scored 12 points off the bench (5-for-8). Sophomore Iba Camara (Dakar, Senegal) notched his third double-double, second consecutive, with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
UNH held at least an eight-point cushion throughout the second half. UNH led by 15 points with 5:37 to play as the Bears closed the deficit to eight points, 76-68, with 2:57 to go. Brown's JR Hobbie hit a trey followed by an Armstrong finish in the paint. The Texas native's layup was bookended by a Jason Massey finish and a put-back dunk. Cedric Kuakumensah finished the stretch with a lefty layup.
The Wildcats never led by more than 11 points until the 36-second mark when Dion hit two free throws to push the lead to 13 points. New Hampshire hit all six free-throw attempts in the final 1:03.
The Bears were led by Kuakumensah who recorded 15 points and eight rebounds. Hobbie scored 12 points on three field goals beyond the arc. Both Spieth and Justin Massey recorded 11 points each as Spieth dished five assists.
With the Wildcats holding a 25-24 lead with 7:47 to go in the first half, UNH scored seven points to Brown's two, on two Dion fade aways and an Armstrong and-1 completion to lead 32-26 with 6:08 to play. Brown matched the run with a 6-0 stretch to trail 34-30.
New Hampshire finished the half with a 9-2 run to pull ahead 43-32, the Wildcats largest lead in the opening stanza, at the break. Jordan scored four consecutive points with a drawn foul and two made free throws, followed by a fastbreak finish in the paint to lead 38-30. Camara nailed a free throw of his own before Kuakumensah hit a layup with the Bears down 39-32. Armstrong grabbed a loose ball and turned the steal into two points followed by two Smith free throws to end the half.
The Wildcats played without 2015 Rookie of the Year and the team's leading scorer, Tanner Leissner (Converse, Texas) who was out with an injury.
New Hampshire returns home for the first time since the season opener Saturday, Nov. 28 against American University (noon). The game will be one of UNH's "Beat Hunger Games" Wildcat Food Drives presented by Service Credit Union and WOKQ.
