NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Senior co-captain Meghan Ledwith (Yardley, Pa.) notched the lone goal of the game in the second half to lift the University of New Hampshire women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Yale University on Sunday afternoon at Resse Stadium.
With the win, the Wildcats hold a mark of 3-6-0 on the season while the Bulldogs slip to 5-2 overall.
UNH Sophomore netminder Mimi Borkan (Medfield, Mass.) and Yale's goalkeeper Rachel Ames made a total of six saves each in the game. Borkan earned her third clean sheet of the season.
The Wildcats tallied four straight shots before Ledwith scored the only goal of the game (56th minute) as senior Caroline Murray (New Canaan, Conn.) was credited with the assist (second on the year). Ledwith has posted one goal and one assist on the season.
Junior Kirsten O'Neil (Hampton, N.H.) opened the second half two minutes in with a blast of her own going high. Sophomore Morgan Smith (Canton, Conn.) and Murray continued the offensive attack by adding a shot each. Ledwith took a shot of her own at the 53rd minute but it was blocked.
The Bulldogs had a number of high-quality chances to get the equalizer. At one point during the game, Yale had a two-on-one and Borkan slid over to make a tremendous save. Borkan made some key stops to preserve the victory.
Freshman Brooke Murphy (Monson, Mass.) and Murray led UNH with three shots each.
New Hampshire held a slight edge in shots 13-12. The Bulldogs garnered a total of 11 corner kicks while the 'Cats had five.
The squad returns to Durham on Sunday, Sept. 28 against University of Vermont at Bremner Field (2 p.m.) to open up conference play.
