DURHAM, N.H. – Sophomore Daniel Dion (Cedar Park, Texas) scored a career-high 23 points, including his team's final 13 in the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team's 75-68 non-conference victory against Boston University on Tuesday night at Lundholm Gymnasium.
UNH evened its record at 2-2 while dropping Boston U to 1-3 on the year.
The Wildcats featured four men in double figures by outscoring BU in points off turnovers, 22-3, and finishing the game 21-of-26 (.808) at the line.
Freshmen Tanner Leissner (Converse, Texas) posted his second double-digit game with 12 points, six rebounds in 25 minutes of play. Jaleen Smith (Freeport, Texas) chipped in his second consecutive game with double figures (15 points, four rebounds and two assists).
Sophomore Jacoby Armstrong (Sasche, Texas) had a great performance as he put up 13 points and earned three rebounds off of the glass.
Senior Matt Miller (Arnold, Md.) saw action for the first this season as he came through with seven rebounds (all defensive) and added three points, two assists and one steal.
BU's Cedric Hankerson put up a team-best 26 points while adding 10 rebounds in just 36 minutes on the court.
The Wildcats went on a 12-5 run just five minutes into the game with the Terriers tallying the first bucket of the game. Armstrong started the run with his layup less than two minutes in.
After the New Hampshire run, BU was able to get back in and tied the game up, 14 all, at 14:03 as Hankerson nailed one of his three-pointers in the game.
For most of the first half, buckets were exchanged on both sides of the court.
With 4:04 reaming in the first stanza, UNH was up by eight points, 31-23.
The Terriers rallied back to get within four points to go into the half down, 34-30 as John Papale scored the last two buckets.
At the half, the 'Cats posted 18 points in the paint as BU had eight.
The Wildcats never looked back as the squad continued to have a stellar offensive presence. At 9:27, the Terriers cut the deficit 51-50 and looked to come within range of tying the game up. But the 'Cats had a different story went on a 6-0 run to go up 57-50 with less than eight minutes remaining in the game.
The Wildcats largest lead of the night was nine points, 75-66, with just 10 seconds left in the game.
Dion went on a shooting streak late in the second half to push UNH past Boston U. as the team earned their second win of the season.
The Wildcats return to the hardwood Sunday at 3 p.m. with a road tilt at Dartmouth College. UNH's next home game is Saturday, Dec. 6 (5 p.m.), against Wheelock College.
