UNH Scores 113 Points in Home-Opening Win

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior guard KiJan Robinson (Apopka, Fla.) led five double-digit scorers with 20 points as the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team defeated Curry College, 113-31, in Thursday night's home opener at Lundholm Gym.
Robinson had an efficient shooting night. He made 8 of 11 field goal attempts, including 2 of 3 from behind the 3-point arc, as well as 2 of 3 free throws. Robinson was also credited with a game-high five assists.
Junior guard Jack Graham (Smithfield, R.I.) was next with 14 points and was followed by junior forward Belal El Shakery (Alexandria, Egypt; 12 points), then junior guard Comeh Emuobor (Raleigh, N.C.) and sophomore forward John Squire (Sausalito, Calif.) with 11 apiece.
El Shakery recorded his first career double-double by pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds. Freshman forward Giannos Xanthopoulos (Zografou, Greece) also had 11 boards.
Tommy Mallinson and JD Heneke both scored eight points for Curry.
UNH levels its overall record at 1-1; this was an exhibition game for Curry.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Squire scored the first points of the game at 19:23 and the Wildcats started with an 18-0 run before Curry got into the scoring column at 12:10.
- The lead was pushed to 20 points, 28-8, on a 3-pointer by Davide Poser (Veneto, Italy) at 8:58.
- Robinson's two free throws advanced the score to 46-24 at 1:15 and neither team scored again before halftime.
- UNH began the second half on a 10-0 run to extend the margin beyond 30 points, 56-24, at 18:06.
- The advantage grew to 50 points, 80-30, midway through the second half.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- New Hampshire's 67 second-half points broke the program record for points in a half. The previous benchmark of 64 was established Feb. 4, 1989 against Vermont (also in the second half).
- UNH's single-game points record still stands at 116; that mark was set Feb. 20, 1971 against Brandeis.
- The Wildcats also broke the school single-game record with 42 3-point attempts; that supplanted the 41 attempted Feb. 23, 2008 at UMBC.
- The 16 3-pointers made in Thursday's home opener was not a record; the 'Cats made 18 3-pointers vs. Curry in November 2023.
- New Hampshire pulled down 71 rebounds; that record of 81 was set Jan. 13, 1960 vs. MIT.
- UNH recorded 23 assists on 44 made field goals.
- The 'Cats shot 48.9% from the floor (44 of 90).
- Graham set career highs of 14 points and four rebounds.
- Squire established personal bests in points and rebounds (eight).
- Xanthopoulos pulled down 10+ rebounds for the first time in his career.
