Men's Soccer Edged by UMBC, 2-0

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of New Hampshire men's soccer team fell to the University of Maryland, Baltimore County by a score of 2-0 from Bremner Field on Saturday evening for Family Weekend.
The Wildcats fall to 5-8-2 overall and 1-4-0 in America East action. The Retrievers improve to 7-5-3 on the season and 3-0-1 in league play.
Senior goalkeeper Travis Worra (Lancaster, Pa.) made fives saves in 90 minutes between the pipes for UNH. UMBC netminder Billy Heavner made two saves in the game.
The Retrievers found the back of the net in each half, one in the 40th minute and the other coming in the 72nd minute.
UMBC outshot UNH for the match, 20-14. Both teams tallied five corner kicks apiece.
Junior Fazal Nabi (Portland, Maine) led New Hampshire with four shots with one on target. Four other players took two shots each, including sophomore Riley Ellis (Goffstown, N.H.), junior Andrew Chaput (Manchester, N.H.), sophomore Christopher Wingate (Hovik, Norway) and sophomore Erik Martel (Bedford, N.H.).
The first shot of the game came off the foot of UMBC's Michael Scott (3:59) as Worra laid out to make the save to keep the match scoreless.
The Retrievers controlled the first half as they mustered nine shots with Worra stopping three of them. UMBC jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 40:58 as Kay Banjo scored on an unassisted goal. Banjo found his way through the defense and triggered a shot right outside the box to the left post, just out of the reach of Worra.
The Wildcats came out firing in the second half putting together 10 shots.
In the 48th minute, Nabi blasted one of his four shots in the game, but Heavner came up with the save. In the 66th minute, the 'Cats had three chances to get on the board. However, UNH was unable to follow through, highlighted by a Chaput had a header that rocked the post.
UMBC patted its lead off a corner kick in the 72nd minute as Mamadou Kansaye headed the ball past Worra and inside the near right post.
The Retrievers maintained possession in the final 18 minutes to record their seventh win of the season.
The Wildcats are back in action Tuesday, Oct. 28 (7 p.m.) as the team travels to Providence, R.I. to take on Brown University in non-conference action. New Hampshire returns to Durham for its last home game of the regular season Saturday, Nov. 1 (12 p.m.) against the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
