Elinor Purrier, a junior from Montgomery, Vt., raced to first place in the NCAA Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships at Van Cortlandt Park (New York City, N.Y.) on Nov. 11. With that amazing accomplishment, Elinor qualified for the NCAA Championships that will be held Nov. 19 in Terre Haute, Ind.
Elinor, a two-time America East conference cross country titlist, covered the 6K course in a time of 20 minutes, 3.7 seconds to best the field of 254 competitors.
She is the first runner in program history to win an NCAA regional cross country title and is also the first Wildcat to qualify for an NCAA Championship in all three seasons – cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field.
Elinor’s victory led UNH to 11th place out of 37 teams.
Last spring, Elinor earned her fourth All-America Team honor when she placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Championships.
