Katy Howard joined the Wildcat women’s basketball coaching staff as assistant coach in November 2020.
The native of Pittsburgh, Pa., previously served as assistant coach at Division II Southern New Hampshire University under UNH alumna Karen Pinkos for three seasons (2017-20). Coaching highlights at SNHU included a 50-37 overall record during that time. Howard mentored Penmen all-time leading scorer and rebounder Kylie Lorenzen, and the program placed in the WBCA Division II Academic Top-25 Team Honor Roll twice in Katy's three-year tenure.
Prior to working at SNHU, Howard coached on the staff at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh from 2014-17. She helped the Tartans post program-best win totals in both 2015-16 and 2016-17, finishing with a 21-7 record each year. The team reached the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time in program history in 2016 and then captured an ECAC Division III title in 2017.
Katy’s coaching career began in 2013-14 as an assistant at Worcester State University, where she was responsible for the coordination of drills for team practices, management of team film sessions and monitoring of team weightlifting sessions. She was also involved in recruitment of future student-athletes.
Howard was a four-year starter and 1,000-point scorer in 114 career games at Assumption College in Worcester, Mass. She ranked 14th on the school’s all-time scoring list and set the program's record for career minutes (3498) and games started (113). As a senior, Howard led the Greyhounds to the Northeast-10 Championship final and an appearance in the NCAA Division II East Regional.
Katy received her Bachelor's degree in Human Services and Rehabilitation Studies from Assumption in 2013. In 2020, she earned her master’s degree from SNHU in Organizational Leadership.
