Derek Marchione joined the Wildcat women’s basketball program as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator in October 2020. As the recruiting coordinator, Derek will be responsible for assisting Coach Hogan in the organization of the program's recruitment of prospective student-athletes along with overseeing NCAA compliance. He will primarily be recruiting New England, NY/NJ and internationally. His other duties include serving as the coordinator of strength and conditioning and working with the post players.
Marchione previously served as head women’s basketball coach at SUNY Sullivan in 2019-20. In his lone season leading the Lady Generals, they captured the Mid-Hudson Conference Championship, Region XV Championship, District East A Championship, and qualified for the NJCAA DII Nationals (earning a #8 seed). Marchione was also named the East District Coach of the Year. The Generals finished 29-2 with a final ranking of No. 15 in the national poll; they were riding a 24-game winning streak when the national tournament was canceled due to COVID-19.
The native of Waterford, N.Y, was the head girls’ coach at Putnam Science Academy (Putnam, Conn.) for two seasons (2017-19). Marchione started the program in April 2017 and, in his first season, led Putnam to a 21-9 record. In 2018-19, the program went 23-7 and reached the Independent School National Tournament semifinals. During his time at Putnam, Marchione coached current UNH guard Helena Delaruelle along with a number of other players who went on to earn scholarships at Towson, East Carolina, Providence, UAlbany, Marist, Canisius, Bryant, Quinnipiac, Norfolk State, Southern New Hampshire and Concordia (N.Y.).
After graduating from Keene State College, Derek spent three years as an assistant at Georgian Court University in Lakewood, N.J. He worked under women’s basketball Hall of Famer Jasmina Perazic and was responsible for all recruiting efforts along with assisting in all other aspects of the program.
Marchione earned his bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences from Keene State.
