DeChent Records 15 Points, 9 Rebounds in 72-56 Loss at Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt.– Junior guard Eva DeChent (Westchester, N.Y.) recorded 15 points and nine rebounds but the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team was upended by the University of Vermont, 72-56, on Saturday afternoon at Patrick Gym.
Senior forward Lucia Melero Sabat (Barcelona, Spain) matched her career high of 12 points on 6 of 8 shooting from the floor. Sophomore guard Elizabeth Lavoie (Hampstead, N.H.) finished with nine points and eight rebounds.
DeChent, who led all players by matching her personal best of nine rebounds, also had three assists and two blocks.
Nikola Priede led all scorers with 35 points while both Keira Hanson (13) and Jadyn Weltz (10) also scored in double digits for Vermont.
UNH is now 6-9 overall and 0-2 in the conference. UVM is 13-4, 2-0.

FIRST QUARTER
- UVM scored the first two points of the game but a jumper by Melero, 3-pointer by Lavoie and layup by Camryn Fauria (North Attleborough, Mass.) gave the Wildcats a 7-2 lead at 6:42.
- DeChent's 3-pointer at 3:49 gave UNH its largest lead of the game, 14-6.
- UVM closed within three points before Katie Ledden (Clark, N.J.) made a layup to give New Hampshire a 16-11 lead with 58 seconds on the clock, and the visitors led by that score at the end of the first quarter.
SECOND QUARTER
- Priede leveled the score, 20-20, at 6:45 but Melero Sabat's layup on UNH's next possession put the Wildcats back in front, 22-20, at 6:23.
- UVM went on an 8-0 run to take a 30-24 lead at 2:07 that would not be relinquished the rest of the game.
- Priede beat the buzzer with a layup to send the home team into halftime with a 34-28 advantage.
THIRD QUARTER
- UNH closed within two points, 36-34, on a jumper by Maggie Cavanaugh (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.) at 7:37.
- The Catamounts inched out to a double-digit lead, 48-37, at 3:29 and led by 14 points, 55-41, through 30 minutes.
FOURTH QUARTER
- UVM outscored the Wildcats 17-15 in the fourth quarter and maintained a double-digit lead.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- DeChent has led UNH in scoring in 12 of 15 games, as well as rebounding and blocks both seven times.
- Melero Sabat has scored a high of 12 points three times in her career.
- Averie Harding (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) scored a career-high eight points. She made 4 of 6 field goal attempts in 10:34 of play.
- DeChent tied with Cavanaugh and Carolina Williams (Valatie, N.Y.) for the team lead in assists.
