DeChent's Season-High 33 Points Lifts UNH Past CCSU, 69-66

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – Junior guard Eva DeChent (Westchester, N.Y.) scored a season-high 33 points to lead the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team to Wednesday afternoon's 69-66 victory against Central Connecticut State University at Detrick Gym.
With UNH leading 67-66, DeChent made two free throws with 10 seconds left and, following a CCSU timeout, the Wildcats made a defensive stop to secure the win as Camryn Fauria (North Attleborough, Mass.) contested the short jump shot and Lucia Melero Sabat (Barcelona, Spain) pulled down the rebound as time expired.
DeChent also pulled down a game-high seven rebounds. The trio of DeChent, Elizabeth Lavoie (Hampstead, N.H.; 13 points) and Maggie Cavanaugh (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.; 11) combined to score 57 of UNH's 69 points. Lavoie finished with five rebounds, team-high three assists and two steals.
CCSU was led by Jessica Farrell (19 points), Lucia Noin (16) and Kiyah Lewis (12). Lewis and Noin both had seven rebounds and four assists.
UNH improves to 4-7 overall and CCSU is 0-10.

FIRST QUARTER
- UNH took its first lead of the game, 6-5, when Lavoie stole the ball near halfcourt and went uncontested for the layup at 7:03.
- Fauria's short jumper extended the lead to 8-5 at 6:21 and a 3-pointer by Cavanaugh matched that margin, 11-8, at 4:37.
- Trailing 13-11, the 'Cats scored six consecutive points on layups by Katie Ledden (Clark, N.J.) and Cavanaugh, and a pair of foul shots by Carolina Williams (Valatie, N.Y.) to surge to a 17-13 advantage.
- Cierra Pearson's 3-pointer trimmed the home team's deficit to 17-16 through 10 minutes.
SECOND QUARTER
- CCSU opened the second quarter on an 11-2 run to build a 29-19 lead at 6:12.
- Averie Harding (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) finished the feed from DeChent on the pick-and-roll to pull UNH within 29-21 at 5:51.
- CCSU pushed the margin to 11 points, 34-23, at 3:20.
- UNH responded with an 8-0 run that started with a 3-pointer by DeChent and ended on a three-point play by Lavoie to close within 34-31 with 42 seconds on the clock.
- Another jumper by Pearson closed the first-half scoring to send the Blue Devils into the locker room with a 36-31 lead.
THIRD QUARTER
- UNH outscored CCSU 22-12 in the third quarter to take a 53-48 lead through 30 minutes.
- Trailing 38-34, the Wildcats went on an 8-2 spurt to retake the lead, 42-40, at 4:27. DeChent started the rally with an and-1 that was followed by a reverse putback by Ledden and another and-1 by DeChent.
- New Hampshire scored nine consecutive points to build a 51-43 advantage at 1:51. DeChent and Lavoie completed three-point plays and then DeChent connected from behind the 3-point arc.
- CCSU inched within 51-48 before Cavanaugh closed the quarter with a pair of three throws with five seconds on the clock.
FOURTH QUARTER
- UNH extended the lead to double digits, 62-51, on DeChent's driving layup at 7:37.
- CCSU responded with a 9-0 run to pull within 62-60 at 3:53.
- Another layup by DeChent stopped the run, but the Blue Devils leveled the score at 64 with two free throws at 2:23.
- Lavoi's 3-pointrer from the right wing put the 'Cats back on top, 67-64, at 2:12.
- Farrell made two foul shots on the next CCSU possession to make it a one-point game, 67-66, at 1:50.
- That was the same score when Fauria pulled down an offensive rebound off a missed free throw with 18 seconds left.
- Following a UNH timeout, the Wildcats ran six seconds off the clock before CCSU fouled DeChent with 10 seconds on the clock.
- She made both free throws to extend the advantage to 69-66.
- Out of a timeout, CCSU went for a quick two-point field goal attempt but Fauria slid to the left blocks to challenge Lewis' shot, which caromed off the rim and the ball was grabbed my Melero Sabat to secure the win.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- DeChent made 12 of 19 field goal attempts, including 4 of 5 from 3-point range, and was a perfect 5-for-5 at the foul line to score her season-high 33 points. She scored 31 earlier this season at Colgate University, and she scored a career high of 34 points twice last season.
- The four 3-pointers matched her personal best, which she did three times in the 2024-25 season.
- UNH recorded season highs in both field goal percentage (56.8%) by shooting 25 of 44 from the floor, and in 3-point field goal percentage (54.5%) by making 6 of 11 shots from behind the arc.
- New Hampshire overcame an 11-point deficit to match the Wildcats' largest comeback win of the season; the 'Cats also came back from 11 points down to defeat Merrimack College on Dec. 5.
- This was UNH's last non-conference road game of the season.
GAME NOTEBOOK
- UNH outscored CCSU at the foul line (13-7) and in the paint (32-28).
- The Wildcats finished with a 35-28 edge in rebounds but CCSU had the 11-6 edge in offensive rebounds, which led to a 9-4 advantage in second-chance points.
