DeChent Scores 22 Points as UNH Rolls Past Dartmouth, 74-38

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior guard Eva DeChent (Westchester, N.Y.) recorded 22 points, seven rebounds and seven assists to lead the University of New Hampshire women's basketball team to Saturday afternoon's 74-38 victory against Dartmouth College at Lundholm Gym.
Maggie Cavanaugh (Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.), another junior guard, finished with 10 points, four rebounds and three assists while freshman forward Alia Cordone (Davis, Calif.) had 10 points.
Dartmouth was led by Cate MacDonald's 14 points.
UNH, which outscored the Big Green 44-15 in the second half, won its second consecutive game to remain unbeaten at home (4-0) and improve to 5-7 overall. DC is now 8-3.

FIRST QUARTER
- UNH scored the first points of the game on a layup by Camryn Fauria (North Attleborough, Mass.) and there was never a lead change.
- With the score tied at 4, UNH inched ahead to a 10-4 lead at 3:16 on baskets in the paint by Cordone, DeChent and Cavanaugh.
- Trailing by that six-point margin, Dartmouth scored the last four points of the quarter to close within 12-10 through 10 minutes.
SECOND QUARTER
- Olivia Austin scored the first points of the second quarter to forge a 12-12 tie, but then Fauria's turnaround jumper in the paint gave UNH a 14-12 lead at 8:10 that would not be relinquished as Cavanaugh followed with a 3-pointer at 6:13 and DeChent made a driving layup at 5:31 to extend the advantage to 19-12.
- The Big Green closed within three points, 23-20, on a fastbreak basket by MacDonald at 3:36.
- Katie Ledden (Clark, N.J.) connected from 3-point range and another DeChent layup reestablished the largest lead of the first half – eight points – at 28-20.
- A short jumper by Cordone beat the buzzer to give UNH a 30-23 halftime lead.
THIRD QUARTER
- New Hampshire shot 71.4% from the floor (10 of 14) in the third quarter to outscore the visitors 23-10 and extend the lead to 53-33.
- DeChent factored heavily into UNH's third-quarter offensive surge with 10 points – she made 4 of 5 field goal attempts – and five assists.
- The 'Cats took the first double-digit lead of the game, 34-23, when DeChent followed her own miss for a layup at 8:23.
- DC attempted to press full court, but UNH countered with layups by Elizabeth Lavoie (Hampstead, N.H.) and Cordone to extend the advantage to 48-31 at 2:38.
- Lavoie's 3-pointer gave the Wildcats a 20-point lead, 53-33, with 31 seconds on the clock.
FOURTH QUARTER
- New Hampshire continued to pull away in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Big Green 21-5.
- The margin grew to 30+ points, 66-35, on a turnaround jumper in the lane by Averie Harding (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) at 5:32.
- The lead peaked at 38 points, 74-36, on a layup by Kassidy Thompson (Mullica Hill, N.J.) with 50 seconds remaining.
UNH NOTEBOOK
- DeChent's seven assists bested her previous career high of four.
- She has scored 20+ points in six games this season and 16 career.
- Cordone's 10 points marked a personal best that topped her previous mark of seven points at Brown University on Nov. 25.
- Lavoie recorded a career-high 10 rebounds.
- Harding finished with career highs in points (six), rebounds (six) and blocks (two) in 6:21 of action.
- New Hampshire recorded a season-high 46 rebounds. The previous season high was 37 in the season opener vs. Worcester State.
- UNH's defense stymied the Big Green into the lowest field goal percentage by a Wildcats' opponent this season – 26.2% (14 of 62).
GAME NOTEBOOK
- UNH never trailed in the game and held the lead for a total of 36 minutes, 30 seconds. There were three tie scores – at 2, 4 and 12 points.
- The Wildcats outscored Dartmouth in the paint (50-12) and second-chance points (12-5).
