Sommerová made her second World Cup start, representing Czechia.
COPPER MOUNTAIN, Colo. — University of New Hampshire freshman alpine skier Celine Sommerová (Milton, N.H.) competed in the 2025 Audi FIS Ski World Cup at Copper Mountain, Colo., over the weekend, racing in the women's slalom event on Sunday (Nov. 30).
The FIS Ski World Cup is the premier international circuit for alpine skiing, featuring the world's top athletes competing across multiple disciplines throughout the winter season. It is considered one of the highest levels of competition in the sport, offering invaluable experience against elite global fields.
"It was an amazing opportunity but being only my second World Cup start ever and the first race of the season, I definitely felt some nerves," shared Sommerová, who raced for Czechia in the slalom, "unfortunately, I didn't finish, but that's how it goes sometimes."
Despite the result, Alpine Head Coach Brian Blank emphasized the significance of the experience.
"This was a great opportunity for Celine to compete at the highest level against the best in the world. She was skiing well on the first run but didn't finish. At the World Cup, you need to finish in the top 30 to get a second run. Celine started at bib 59, so getting a second run is a tall order," said Blank, "competing against the best in the world is an amazing experience and great for the ski program. We are very proud of Celine for taking this opportunity and are looking for great things to come from her."
New Hampshire opens the 2026 ski schedule with a Nordic race on Jan. 4, 2026, when the Wildcats visit Mount Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid, N.Y., while alpine ski kicks off on Jan. 16, 2026, when the 'Cats visits Sugarloaf Mountain in Carrabassett Valley, Maine, for the Colby Carnival.
