Women’s Nordic Team Wins 20K Classic at NCAA Regional

Wildcats place fourth overall.
RIPTON, Vt. & HANCOCK, Vt. – The women's Nordic team captured the 20K classic to lead the University of New Hampshire ski team on Day 2 of the NCAA East Regional/EISA Championships at the Middlebury Carnival.
Sophomore Isac Hedström (Are, Sweden) was the slalom points leader for the EISA Carnival season and garnered first team All-East accolades, while graduate student Hunter Brayton (Waterville Valley, N.H.) earned second team honors.
Senior captain Luci Anderson (Golden Valley, Minn.) earned first team All-East honors, while sophomore Hattie Barker (Underhill, Vt.) was named to the second team.
The 'Cats won the 20K skate at Rikert with 113 points and the men's team was fourth with 84 points. The men's Alpine team placed fourth in the giant slalom with 83 points, while the women's team was sixth with 68 points.
UNH finished fourth overall out of 14 teams with 691 points. Vermont won with 943 points, while Dartmouth was second (876.5), Middlebury was third (739) and Colby was fifth (555).
The Wildcats will compete at the NCAA Championships on March 6-9 in Steamboat Springs, Colo. The giant slalom is on March 6, the 7.5K skate is on March 7, the slalom is on March 8 and the 20K classic is on March 9.
The women's Nordic team was outstanding as the 'Cats posted four of the top eight finishes. Anderson led the team as she was fourth (58:37.0) and earned 41 points. Senior captain Jasmine Lyons (Ottawa, Ontario) was next at sixth (58:49.1) picking up 37 points, while senior Lea Stabaek Wenaas (Oslo, Norway) placed seventh (58:54.0) securing 35 points. Barker also recorded a top-10 result at eighth (58:56.1).
On the men's side, junior Eli Gore (Madison, Wis.) led the Wildcats at 13th (51:29.6) gaining 29 points as he was followed by junior Roger Anderson (Golden Valley, Minn.) at 14th (51:35.6) with 28 points and junior Nathan Maybach (Boise, Idaho) at 15th (51:39.7) with 27 points.
Hedström was the top finisher for the men's Alpine team as he placed 11th in the giant slalom with a combined time of 1:58.10 good for 30 points. Brayton earned 27 points at 13th (1:58.23) and senior captain Peder Nersnaes (Oslo, Norway) recorded 25 points at 17th (1:58.47).
Sophomore Tilde Kandell (Leksand, Sweden) was 15th in the giant slalom with a combined time of 2:04.55 garnering 27 points. Junior Gaia Palamara (Verona, Italy) was 22nd (2:05.22) securing 21 points and graduate student Cassie Lieblein (Harrisburg, Pa.) was 23rd (2:05.25) posting 20 points.
