Hunter Brayton Wins Silver at NCAA Regional

The men’s Alpine team placed first in the slalom.
RESULTS
RIPTON, Vt. & HANCOCK, Vt. – Graduate student Hunter Brayton (Waterville Valley, N.H.) posted his first career podium and the men's Alpine team placed first in the slalom to lead the University of New Hampshire ski team on Day 1 of the NCAA East Regional/EISA Championships at the Middlebury Carnival. Brayton was second in the slalom at the Snowbowl.
The men's Alpine team won the slalom with 113 points, while the women's team was 11th with 31 points. The women's Nordic team placed fourth in the 7.5K skate at Rikert with 107 points and the men's team was also in fourth-place with 92 points.
UNH is currently third overall out of 14 teams with 343 points. Vermont is first with 472 points, while Dartmouth is second (464), Middlebury is fourth (338) and Colby is fifth (299).
The Wildcats will conclude the NCAA East Regional on Saturday, Feb. 24 with the 20K classic and the giant slalom.
The men's Alpine team earned 113 points for placing second, fifth and 13th to win the slalom. Brayton recorded 47 points with his second-place finish in a combined time of 1:34.95 just behind the 1:34.78 of Declan McCormack of Vermont. Senior Hayden Dahl (Plymouth, N.H.) also posted a strong performance for fifth (1:35.45) and 39 points. Senior captain Peder Nersnaes (Oslo, Norway) secured 27 points at 13th (1:36.22) and sophomore Isac Hedström (Are, Sweden) also had a top-20 finish at 16th (1:36.60).
Graduate student Cassie Lieblein (Harrisburg, Pa.) led the women's Alpine team with a 10th-place finish and 31 points with a combined time of 1:44.42.
The women's Nordic team tallied three top-10 finishes led by senior captain Luci Anderson (Golden Valley, Minn.) who totaled 41 points as she placed fourth (24:11.6) in the 7.5K skate. Sophomore Hattie Barker (Underhill, Vt.) picked up 35 points at seventh (24:53.1), senior Lea Stabaek Wenaas (Oslo, Norway) posted 31 points as she finished ninth (25:11.0) and senior captain Jasmine Lyons (Ottawa, Ontario) was 12th (25:15.3).
Senior captain Seth Wyatt (Bozeman, Mont.) had the top finish for the men's Nordic team at seventh (21:13.2) gaining 35 points. Junior Nathan Maybach (Boise, Idaho) picked up 29 points at 12th (21:31.1) and junior Eli Gore (Madison, Wis.) secured 28 points by placing 15th (21:44.0).
