Barker, Wenaas and Anderson Combine to Win 5K Skate Relay on Day 2 of Williams Carnival

HANCOCK, Mass. and WOODFORD, Vt. – The University of New Hampshire women's 5K skate relay of Hattie Barker (Underhill, Vt.), Lea Stabaek Wenaas (Oslo, Norway) and Luci Anderson (Golden Valley, Minn.) finished atop the podium Saturday in Day 2 of the Williams Carnival.
UNH recorded 398 points Saturday to climb into third place overall with a total of 769 points. The University of Vermont won the carnival with 846.5 points and Dartmouth College placed second with 843. Middlebury College (717) and Colby College (564.5) rounded out the top five.
The UNH women's alpine team had a strong day at Jiminy Peak Mountain by tying for second place in the slalom with 107 points. The men's alpine squad recorded the third-highest mark in the slalom with 94 points and men's Nordic placed fourth in the 5K skate relay for 86 points.
The alpine team wraps up the weekend with an NCAA qualifier on Feb. 18. The entire UNH ski team returns to action Feb. 23-24 at the Middlebury Carnival, which is also the EISA Championships.

RESULTS
UNH was incredibly consistent in a dominating 5k skate relay win to earn 116 points. Barker completed the first leg of the freestyle relay in a time of 15 minutes, 23.7 seconds, Wenaas followed with a time of 15:25.7, and Anderson finished the final leg in 15:25.8. That combined time of 46:15.2 bested the runner-up by 44.9 seconds. In comparison, the gap between second and fifth place was 41 seconds.
New Hampshire placed three skiers in the top 10 of the women's slalom. Sophomore Tilde Kandell (Leksand, Sweden) recorded the fourth-fastest time in the first run (48.55 seconds) and completed Run 2 in 52.19 to hold onto fourth place with an aggregate time of 1:40.74; she missed finishing on the podium by .13 seconds.
Grad student Cassie Lieblein (Harrisburg, Pa.) completed her two slalom runs in 1:41.43 to earn sixth place and 35 points. Junior Zoe Michael (Sydney, Australia) took 10th place and 31 points with two-run time of 1:42.23.
Sophomore Isac Hedström (Are, Sweden) placed fourth in the men's slalom with runs of 46.6 seconds and 46.26 for a final time of 1:32.86. He missed finishing on the podium by .46 seconds. Senior Peder Nersnaes (Oslo, Norway) and sophomore Zachary Temertzoglou (Toronto, Ontario) finished 16th and 18th, respectively in 1:33.59 and 1:33.66.
Juniors Roger Anderson (Golden Valley, Minn.) and Eli Gore (Madison, Wis.) combined with senior Seth Wyatt (Bozeman, Mont.) to finish fourth in the men's 5K skate relay with a time of 42:26.6. That mark was 1.7 seconds from placing on the podium.
