HOCHFILZEN, Austria – Former University of New Hampshire Nordic skiing star Luci Anderson, an All-American in the 7.5K skate race at the NCAA Championships and two-time team captain, is taking her talents to the global stage. This weekend, Anderson will make her Biathlon World Cup debut in Hochfilzen, Austria, following an impressive run on the International Biathlon Union (IBU) Cup circuit.
A 2023 graduate of UNH, Anderson boasts an outstanding collegiate career that includes nine podium finishes, six of them victories. Highlights of her achievements include first-place finishes at the 2023 EISA Championships in the 5K freestyle and the 2021 EISA Nordic Carnival 10K freestyle at Jackson XC. She was named First Team All-East in both 2023 and 2024, a testament to her dominance in collegiate Nordic skiing.
In recent weeks, Anderson has been a top performer on the IBU Cup, consistently leading the American contingent. Her strong performances have earned her a call-up to the Biathlon World Cup, a prestigious series that ranks as the second most popular spectator sport in Europe, trailing only soccer.
The Hochfilzen venue, known for its electric atmosphere, will host three events this weekend: the 7.5K Sprint on Friday, Dec. 13, the 10K Pursuit on Saturday, Dec. 14, and the 4x6K Relay on Sunday, Dec. 15. More than 20,000 fans are expected to pack the grandstand and surrounding course to witness the action.
Anderson's journey from collegiate All-American to World Cup competitor showcases her exceptional talent and dedication, serving as a proud milestone for the Wildcat program. For anyone looking to watch Anderson compete live, the races will be streamed on eurovisionsport.com.
The UNH skiing program will kick off its 2025 season on Jan. 10-11 at the Bates Carnival. The Wildcats will host the 2025 EISA Championships/NCAA East Regionals at the UNH Carnival on Feb. 21-22. This prestigious event will be held at the nearby Jackson Nordic Center for Nordic events and at Cannon Mountain for alpine competitions.
